Looking at new laptop

Hey all, new to the forum

I am looking at a new laptop as I am tired of using my MacBook Pro (plus I cannot play Planet Zoo obviously!)

Would any of you guys be able to provide some feedback on the shortlisted 3x laptops below

  • Intel® Core™ i7-1065G7 Processor
  • RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti 4 GB
  • Intel® Core™ i7-10750H Processor
  • RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB
  • Intel® Core™ i7-10875H Processor
  • RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 1 TB SSD
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8 GB
I've listed the 3x in price order, from cheapest to most expensive.

Basically I just need to know if option 1 would be able to run the game smoothly or do I need to go up to option 2/3?

Thanks in advance!

My laptop is very far from this specs (In a bad way) and i can run the game no problems, however i may suggest you the second one because for 200 more you have a 2070 but you can be fine even with the first one imo, but of course someone with more experience than me can suggest a better choice. Welcome to this community :D

The first one should run the game very well.

But I would recommend the second one:
  • First it's a bigger screen :D
  • The RTX 2070 is a better model GPU. You'll notice the difference.
  • It's only £200 more expensive. Since you are already looking into that range. You get a lot for that £ 200 extra.

The comment section does mention heat/low battery life. Maybe worth looking into other models with the same specs if they have the same issues.
(could easily be a design flaw or people not properly handling a laptop but judging from the comments it's not a huge problem)

The 3rd one is nice but imo not worth the extra investment. That's a big gap. (especially if you look at the price range of all 3 models)

Thanks for this reply, very helpful!

yes I think the second one could be the best option as it’s a suitable laptop for all purposes, playing the likes of PZ but also crunching numbers with work.

Would the graphics of the game be very smooth and have a good FPS?

thanks

I still have a 1050TI and doing great.
Not running everything on the highest setting and only start having issues when I have +8000 guests/zoo too big.
I keep my pc clean, so that also really helps.

It's a good card and solid performances with loads of games but with PZ can't confirm anything.
Looking at the specs alone, it's well above the recommended - so you should be very well off.

Hayo @JK Zoo! It looks like there's some good advice in this thread! Looking forward to you being able to play Planet Zoo, make sure you share screenshots with us as we'd love to see your zoos! :)

I bought this laptop

It works great playing Planet Zoo and has truly massive vents and intake for a laptop; it only has 2 USB slots because all available space on sides and back are used to vent air! Have not had a single issue playing PZ on ultra settings even laying down in bed (far from ideal ventilation). Dell is also an awesome company when it comes to customer service; any time I've had a problem (and all electronics have problems eventually) they do really good tech support and if the worst happens they'll send out a box with next day shipping and have the laptop back to you in a week! If you're out of warranty employees are honest, if you send it in they'll flat out tell you "the price to fix it is $___ and honestly that's more than the system is worth. We'll fix it if that's what you want, it's up to you; but we'd honestly recommend just replacing the laptop." I love that they're honest about it, obviously if it is under warranty it's free (although they do not normally cover drop or spill damage).

Like right now Witcher 3 (with a bunch of improved graphics mods to make it run significantly better looking than ultra settings) is running in the background as I type this with my laptop on my tummy in bed it's been like this for the last 30 mins, and the most I can say is my laptop is "a bit warm". If I angled my laptop up on my knees (so intake was better) it would quickly cool off to "a bit above room temperature"
