they are usually in systems in a famine state
Filter Galaxy Map for FAMINE systems. Then fly to the planets.
The DC do not show up in NavPanel, if you are too far away from them.

Like others have said, "look for a famine state system" and then fly towards the main planets bodies as they wont show up right away, you have to get closer to them so they pop up.
Nearby the Distribution Centers you can find in systems with state 'famine' Debris Fields.
There are some materials (most 3 pieces) to find. But the more interesting thing is, that these Debris Fields are
visited by NPC pirates continously. All of them are wanted, so a good place to shoot ships, collect bounties and materials.
It must not be an Anarchy system, because they are all 'Wanted'. So you are not in danger to earn a bounty yourself
and will not get a bad notoriety. But always better, first to scan the ships bevor shooting. Some may be system security ships.

War/civil war occurring in the same system will prevent distribution centers from spawning.
If you see CZs find another system.
I use EDDB and check the system for conflicting states.

Yes, finding the distribution centers are a pain to find.
I still look for them occasionally, but more lately I've decided to pack a long rang engineered class A wake scanner which has a range of 8.8k if I recall correctly. That way I can scan three or four wakes really fast on almost every station I leave.

Piperish had one last night. Massive population and distribution centre 350ls from main star.
Try to find famine systems that have no factions that are at war. First one I found was at a system with only 14k population so I don’t think it matters. Its almost easier with the smaller populated systems because less inhabiting factions, less chance for war.
