Looking for a good home base area

Im a return player (after 4 years) that just upgraded to a Cobra Mark 3 for shipping and eventual exploring which I intend to stick with until I decide to get a Type 6 then a Vulture. Im not into anarchy areas and am looking for a good home base area to refamiliarize myself with . I am currently still in the beginner safe area (Matet) and I play Solo. Im ready to get out and explore. What close areas / stars would be a good STARTER home for me?

I play in VR. So how do I find the various systems folks here in the Galaxy map? Theres no typing in VR . ;) Do I find it in pancake and bookmark it ?

UPDATE- Thanks for all the input commanders!

After I locally get enough credits to get a 4A FSD for my Cobra Mark 3 (fitted with D stuff for lightness) I will head out to Diaguandri . It will only be about 7 jumps away. I like the fact that its an independent democracy and a boom / high tech economy. And many years ago I got great deals on all my ships.

Stay where you are until you have sufficient funds to purchase at Python and an "A" graded FSD. "D" grade everything else and after you accept the 100,000 cr mission that takes you out of the noob zone. Do the Road to Riches. Finishing it will net you about 300 million and Elite status in Explorer and unlocks you inability to go to Jameson Memoria in Shinrarta. There you can purchase any and all ships and mods, except for the mods only available through power play.
I did that the 2nd week after I started three years ago and still have Jameson Memorial as my home base.

I'm near Ray Gateway, but since you don't like anarchies I wouldn't recommend my actual home system unless you're in the market for a T10 or Clipper under the LYR discount :p

Really though unless you're in somewhere like Orrere (why are the code there instead of riedquat anyway? Wasn't that the big lore anarchy system from the first game?) most anarchy systems are fine. Even if you're doing delivery missions and attract enemies, you'll only be carrying cargo through the anarchy for as long as it takes to escape the station's mass-lock anyway.

When you reach Elite eventually, Shinrarta Dezra is the obvious choice, since Jameson Memorial space station has all ships and almost all modules always, at a 10% discount.

I bookmarked Orrere for whenever piracy takes my fancy, or if I need to stock up on Trader related materials by blowing up mining ships (the low RES in the system works a treat for the latter).

Recently made the 'big score' by relieving an NPC Python of 64t of LTDs (there was more on tap, but I ran out of cargo space:D). There are also a few installations you can mess about at, all without fear of getting notoriety.

The other thing to consider is what mode you generally fly in and what your goals are. If you're a solo or PG only player there's no reason not to pick ShinDez once you hit elite. If you prefer open but want relative peace and quiet then you might want to pick somewhere out of the core systems - most traffic is concentrated around the fed core systems where the starter areas and shinrarta are, in a game about travelling in spaceships, go figure. If you want to carve yourself out a little empire by supporting some minor faction or another as a pet project, picking a relatively low-traffic system would be best. If you want to be social but not fly in enough of a hotspot to attract the usual murderhobos that fly at hotspots, places like Diaguandri are good. Wu Guinagi was a nice popular imperial spot outside the powerplay bubble a couple of years ago, but the traffic report's pretty thin on Inara these days so I dunno what happened there.

Ohyeah, while I'm at it, here's a couple of others, both systems that I've called home:

Ys - imperial space, about halfway between Achenar and Cubeo. Haz-res in-system, two nearby systems that also have good bounty hunting and an absolute plethora of pirate lord assassinations if that's your thing. Lowsec with two large orbitals so you've got an interstellar factors handy. There's a PMF, but they've not been active for a long time which means other player groups can't insert their PMF there. Earthlike gives you nice views out of the port.

Woda - LYR space again so you get the discounts. IF at a large orbital. Pristine VO hotspot in-system and the station sells mining gear. Haz-res. Not so great for pirate assassinations/massacres since they'll often send you to HIP 10050 and you'll have to fly 100kls to the mission signal.

I started around Bhotho; good courier and delivery missions. From there, Zaragas was a good source of Performance Enhancers for profitable trading.

Honestly just do missions around until you end up in a system you like. Probably something with a station close to the arrival point and lots of factions on the mission board.

Mind the Superpowers, too. Do you want to get in with the Federation, Imperials, or Alliance? Pick a system where they have some factions.

I made it to Diaguandri, upgraded to a 4A FSD and more cargo racks. The Cobra Mk3 is now fitted with an ideal configuration for exploration and trading. Its a sweet machine.

On day 2 Im doing deliveries for between 200,000 and 400,000 credits. A bit better then on my first day (yesterday) doing data delivers for 10,000 or less ;)

I even got the galaxy map working in VR in a comfortable manner. Wooohoo!

At this rate I will be getting my Vulture to give me some variety from being a deliveryman.

I love this game!

My home has a single planet that endlessly hands out high paying assassination and planetary scan missions. It's right out in the goonies and I shall never tell a soul where it is.

I've called several systems home but the last couple of years LYR space is where I set up base camp. I lived at Diaguandri for about a year (very nice but busy). Then for something different I went to the Pleaides and set up a small base with a couple of exploration ships (there's a fairly nice economy there). I moved back to Spocs 208 a couple months ago and am having fun mining for big money. GL HF
