Looking for a mission target.

So i haven't played for a few days, and i decided to have a goal, which is to rank up as high as i can.
Now been playing for around 4 hrs today, doing the missions.
Last 2 of these hrs is looking for a target, stated he will be in one of 3 systems, i checked loads of USS, nav beacons ect, still no joy. So logged off for now. But i had only 23 hrs to find him, so tomorrow i will be looking again before the timer runs out.
Is there any sort of pattern to these missions, like is he mostly in the last system, or a nav point, or in SC near stations.
Any tips on where to find this guy, other than continually looking in useless USS.

You basically have to keep dropping into USSs until a trader gives you some info like 'hey i just escaped from __________ lets just say I won't be going to system ____________ any time soon' and then your objective should update and you fly to the new system and repeat but this time you should meet your target in a USS.

Pro tip, fly away from the sun then drop to 30km/s in SC (i.e. as slow as you can) then the USSs appear at about 400km out and you can immediately drop out of SC which is much quicker
