looking for a new ship(s)

hey dear people, finally i have enough credits to buy a new ship. (1.200.000.000)
I have unlocked the ranks for the big ships. Now I wonder which ship I should buy me. It should definitely be a combat ship. there are some, fer de lance, mamba, corvette, conda, cutter, type 10?
I just flew for the credits with the anaconda and I have to say that the ship did not like it at all, so I'm a bit scared to buy one of the other big ones. I'm not the biggest fan of allrounders either, I like it when I have a different ship for every field of action. on the other hand, i would like to trust the thargoids in the near future. I know that is much demanded of you, but I would be glad if you would support me in my decision.:)

If you are looking for a combat ship, there are generally two ways you can follow - fun or efficiency. If you're after some fun, Courier, Vulture, Asp Scout are my personal picks Federal Gunship is also my favourite. It has a fighter bay so it adds a whole new level of awesome while shotgunning people in their faces with frag cannons.

If you want an efficient combat ship, FAS, FdL, any of the Alliance frog ships or even a Clipper.

Combat in big ships is boring

Well if you don't like the anaconda you wont like a Corvette either. The view from cockpit and overall flight characteristics are very similar. Cutter is fast but flys like a greased pig on ice. T10 is like a morbidly obese anaconda with worse hardpoint placement. If combat is your goal, I'd stick to mediums. Fed trio, alliance trio, fdl or kraits.

My big three comparison. Others may differ. All three are excellent and best/worse relates to comparing
each other and not their overall capabilities in the game.

Anaconda: Lowest outfitting cost, excellent hull, best weapons placement, slowest, worst maneuvering
Cutter: Highest outfitting cost, excellent shields, worst weapons placement, fastest, average maneuvering
Corvette: Average outfitting cost, hull, shields, weapons placement, speed, best maneuvering

Whether or not they fit your style of play, and you are willing to relearn how to fly them properly, is
totally up to you.

I generally use:

Clipper for mining
Cutter/Python/Orca for cargo/passenger missions
Anaconda/Asp Explorer for exploring
Corvette/FDL/Krait Mk II/FAS for combat including the Thargoids

But my play style is only one of dozens and might not even come close to yours.

I own ( or have owned) pretty much all the combat ships. I agree with some earlier posters that the large combat ships are not as much fin. Although in PVE they are pretty much indestructible, they are pretty boring to fly and fight in.For my money the best combat ship in the game is the FDL. Its fast, maneuverable and packs a good punch. There is nothing in the game a well engineered FDL cannot tackle from a combat perspective. I did just finish the engineering on a new Mamba... and that is proving to be a VERY capable killer as well. Both these ships allow me to practice my two rules of combat:

1. Be fast
2. Stay away from the pointy end!

I would echo the sentiment that the 'Conda & 'Vette feel similar, but for a moderately skilled pilot (at best) like me, the 'Vette makes a great crutch.

I've still never bought an FDL, but out of the rest of the medium ships the Chieftain has proven to be my go to combat ship. Once again, I'm not a great pilot, but I can still stay pretty well glued to a target in it.

A complete combat build on a Python is good fun too, with it's excellent hard point placement, class 7 power distributor, and ample internal slots.

Be a real commander and buy a Beluga.

The handling is second to none, 5 medium hard points is nothing to sneeze at, fighter bay is supported, and now with module restrictions lifted, your outfitting options are impressive.

Been jumping around Combat ships of late ... switched from FDL to Mamba when it dropped for a bit of a change but (lack of) agility was a bit of a pain. Went back to my Corvette for a bit ... effective but too slow and rather dull ... currently in an engineered culture to which I’ve just added a C3 Beam (Thermal Vent) and C3 PA (Focused) which I’m hoping will be both fun and effective, although I’d rather have more hardpoints.

Hoping the rumoured “Mamba-buff” will make it my #1 but suspect I may end up back in an FDL again ...

Do you mind sharing your Mamba build? I am currently trying to fine tune mine, experimenting with different hard points. I think I'll end up settling on 3 PAs and 2 rails, just due to the immense Alpha potential, but looking for input. I'd love to make the 3 PAs Short Range, but the ship just won't handle the heat. I might try the 2 c3 efficient and the c4 short range to see if that could help. Boom and Zoom indeed!

I'm still playing around with my load out as well. I'm currently running 1 huge G5 efficient beam, 2 Pacifiers and 2 small frags all DS and SS. I'm really hoping that the 3.3.1 buff we're expecting helps the agility a bit.
