Looking for a Space Fleet Game!

Hello all! I am looking for an RTS or 4x game that allows me to control an entire fleet of ships. I've searched and searched and I can't quite find one that I particularly like, but I'm sure I'm over looking some! I'm interested in ones with a story if at all possible.

Some games that go with the idea that I'm looking for are: AI War: Fleet Command, Sins of a Solar Empire, and Homeworld. I'd love games with 3D Graphics, such as SoaSE and Homeworld, but I will take block-type graphics too. Or you can just tell me why I should go with and stick with any of the three I mentioned. Any suggestions on what to look at would be appreciated!

If you all need any more details from me to help me out, just let me know.

Well, not sure if you up for it, but you mention Homeworld and it is being re-released with updated graphics in a week and a half. (Hopefully, we will get a HW3 if sales are decent). I started out my online-gaming community play in a HW clan, Paktu Sjet Armada, so I'm hoping to see a resurgence (see sig below with Homeworld reference). Still play games with those guys from 15 years ago. The gameplay, as you know since you mention it, is as good as anything out now. It is just dated in graphics and stuff. Hopefully Gearbox can update those things without messing up all the good stuff. I'm hopeful.

Long live the Battle Ball!

I've been looking into the remastered alot, and the screens look absolutely gorgeous. I may pick it up! thanks for the response!

I do like how there will be a multi player too, so single player doesn't get stale. It combines hw1 and 2. I'm half and half when it comes to gearbox but I may give them the benefit of the doubt.

You know. I would bite someone's arm off to have a fleet combat game that allowed for strategic play but let you fight in real time, commanding any of the cap ships. Anything that can give a sense of scale. Must have huge beam lasers that can cut a ship in half, leaving a trail of crew sucked out in to space, floating in the void.

I felt this with Sins of a Solar Empire. The fleet battles there can get enormous with lots of ships, while a sophisticated micromanagement still allows for closer looks on the graphics and effects and make for an interesting and varied gameplay. Battleships, planetary Weapons and Superweapons/Doomsday devices make for great explosions and screenshots.
