Looking for advice re what to do next after Lakon Type 6 trading rares.

I'm currently in a Type 6, trading rares. I'm working my way to get a Type 7. Once I have that, does anyone have advice on a good way of making credits with the type 7? Should I just max out my cargo space and do normal trading? Or is something a bit more fun available?
My goal is to get a Python eventually.

Thanks in advance!

While you trade in type 6. Start looking for station to station trades for when you get the type 7 as you won't be able to visit outposts.

When do upgrade make sure you know where you can get improved fsd and the cargo modules (or you will have to trade with less cargo than your type 6).

Don't swap too early. You need to have insurance + cash for cargo.

Currently in a 232 cargo 12ly shielded clipper (lovely ship) working towards a python.

Thanks for the info.

Break up the boredom and get an Asp, capable of carrying the T6 load and still a fighter as well. Will also widen your view on ED rather than trading and make life a bit more varied.

Do Empire missions with Asp to get to Baron rank and of course trade as well, and then save up for a Clipper. Much nicer ship, carries more + shields and defences / semi fighter role ship. You will need at lest 26mil to equip a Clipper for this role, compared to about 21mil for a T7. Worth the extra wait IMHO

As said, look out for good trade routes with the T6 whilst you can as the T7 and Clipper cannot land at outposts.

Reasons : See my recent Clipper thread. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=102511&highlight=

Thanks, that's great advice.

I'm really torn regarding the Empire vs Fed rep. If I get to a certain rep in Empire, will that close off getting more rep with the Fed?

No probs, hope it helps.

Asp is about 12mil to get it ready for trading, 16mil for a kick butt one capable of ripping shreds in combat and still a good trader.

You can gain ranks in both Fed and Emp no problems. I am recruit in Fed and friendly, Baron in Emp and friendly and allied with Alliance.

Good luck Cmdr in your choice and don't forget to factor in another 1mil for insurance and 1mil for cargo before you buy as I will kick ya butt if I see a "i lost every thing" thread from you :)

Great, that's good to know regarding rep and I promise I'll (try to!) remember to have enough insurance. :p

Have fun!

Try this:

get a fully rigged Cobra and travel the known rare trade routes. Wait for the inevitable interdiction. Immediately comm what he wants (for distraction), then cut loose.. guaranteed fun and finally a good use for the wake scanner.
