Looking for an advice for my build ideas.

I have been experimenting with various builds and using Coriolis for calculating DPS, according to which 4 pack hounds on an FDL do around 190 dps against armor which is highest i have ever seen. Is it a good choice for PVP and PVE combined with high capacity upgrade and incendiary multicannons against shields?

Talking of which, incendiary multicannons have higher dps against shields than beam lasers. They also have lower energy consumption so it is easier to to sustain fire.

What do you guys think?
I have been using gimbaled MCs with corrosive and incendiary rounds. Really efficient in PVE and good in PVP, managed to take out another CMD in a corvette although it was a fierce fight.
But I want something with a lot higher punch.

I am sticking to railguns and plasma accelerators now but overheating is a problem. I an heavily dependent on heatsinks.
I have been also thinking about full plasma accelerator build with either efficient or long range upgrades.

What is your opinion? Could you give me an advice?
Thanks.

I'm not a packhound expert by any means. But I did try a build once with 4 packhounds, simply because I thought it would look really cool.
It wasn't very effective, and I remember having overheating issues. ...but it did look cool! :)

If you want the strongest 'punch', then you want frag cannons. Yes, you have to get point blank for maximum effect, but holy cow can they dish out the DPS.

There are number of issues with frag cannons and why I am avoiding them.
One of which is, a ship that can not maneuver is a dead ship.
I PvPed against a CMD flying a mabma. Mamba is like a younger brother to the FDL, so needless to say, most of the fight was at 1KM range on average.
If I had a short range weapon like the frag cannons, the fight would take a completely different turn.

Needless to say, he got trashed hard.
Fighting medium ships is not such a big problem. Fighting hard, bulky, spongy ships is a problem. The guy in the corvette I killed before? He died because he got out smarted, not because he got out gunned.
I was fighting him planet side, and managed to take out his engines. He hit the surface like a brick and instantly blew up. The fight might have turned out differently in an empty space.

So I switched to railguns and PAs, which is the old meta. But since the only way to make railguns semi-spammable is by making them G5 sturdy, it is grindy and really expensive.

I read about rapid fire PA build. The damage with those things is insane, but I could not find anyone with any experience using those. Also I doubt the damage would be sustained, since I would still have overheating problems.

Then there are advanced PAs, which have higher magazine and higher firerate, so engineering them would probably yield a better result? Issue is a ship like FDL can have only one, so I can not maximize the potential.

APAs are only in class 3.
Long range is the standard mod for rails, and efficient and focused are the most common PA mods.

Long range was the standard.
Reason being that pre - Update 3.0 you could get 50% heat decrease as a secondary effect.
You can not anymore.

Also using PAs and Rails is not an issue at all. Saying they are a progress is a bald statement because it is not entirely true.
While their damage potential is high, they have their drawbacks. For instance, they do not offer the same sustained damage as other weapons. They are good for bursts.
they also suffer from low ammo capacity. They overheat a lot, and upgrading them is expensive. You have to focus on shooting, and therefore you need to sacrifice some of the evasive maneuvers.

You get an automatic -40% thermal with superpen, feedback and plasma slug now.

I rolled literally hundreds of rails in the old system, ftr.
I never saw -50% once!

Alright, thanks a lot. I will upgrade my rails and they will be my goto primary.

What is your opinion on the pack hounds or all plasma accelerator build?

I use 5 PAs on my FGS, I really like that.
I'd go that route before the Packhounds for sure.
It's way more skill oriented.

The only thing is you're constrained to efficient and the slower projectile speed.
