Looking for Combat Ship Suggestions for Materials

I'm looking for a fast powerful combat ship that I can use to zip around and gather combat related mats from USS's or even Compromised NAV's etc.

My Vulture doesn't really have the Optional Internal Space that I want to free up for for a good Collector Limpet module. My Corvette is just way too big and bulky (though kills so fast), but I hate to keep swapping out my Cargo Space and Limpet mods for Hull Reinforcements when I want to go back into full combat mode (kind of a pain).

I have an Combat FAS in Colonia, not super thrilled with it, but would be open to getting another one just for this if there isn't any better options.

Looking for something that I can use for medium pads. Needs to be fairly fast to gather the mats while limpets are going.

Have a few AspX's and Pythons, but was thinking there was something maybe better for this sort of thing?

Any suggestions?

Viper IV.

Cheap, tanky, room for collectors, very decent jump and fuel range, best accel/decel rate in the game afaik (useful for scooping).

Strong enough to murder NPCs for their pinata candy.

Thing is, searching for mat's usually involves some travelling around as well as the pew-pew - if only to get to a place for suitable pew-pew.

That being the case, if credits aren't an issue, I suppose either an Annie, Cutter or T10 would be the best choice.
On a more modest budget, I'd probably go for a Chieftain, FAS or Python.
On a shoestring, a Viper 4.

I started with an Asp Ex, but migrated to a Python because the Asp just didn't have enough space. Tricked it out to do just about all non-guardian/thargoid data/mat collectioning. It's meant to survive initial hostile fire and run.

The Alliance Chieftain. It has good jump range potential from the get go. It has great flight characteristics. It scoops very well. And, it fight like a boss.

Check the Imperial Courier, I found it to be the best material collector by far. Super fast, good jump range, 4 utilities and 6 internal slots. Also surprisingly cheap when you go for a lightweight build with smaller or D rated modules.

I'd say go with the Viper IV. Sturdy, has good jump range, and decent internal space. Its pitch is fairly garbage, but its amazing acceleration compensates fairly well once you know how to fly it.

I use my Python for this, but really any shield tank would do this well. You're giving up 2 internal modules for the collector limpet and cargo rack. Internals are important to Hull tanks for HRPs and resistances, but unecessary for shield tanks.

Why the combat ship for collecting mats?
At least the Courier has the slight problem that you can't scoop manually with the guns deployed (and dropping a limpet coollector in there kind of destroys the "fast" aspect).
If you can live with manual scooping, the Vulture. Material loaded USSs, in my opinion, rarely carry enough materials to warrant spending the limpets to scoop them as long as you fly an agile ship.
If, in addition to manual scooping, you can live with a slight ;) reduction in combat capapbility in exchange for speed an maneuverability, a Sidewinder :p. Even fully upgraded it's still affordable to lose and cheap to ship around (IIRC 15k Cr. to ship to the Pleiades, compared to half a mill for my Vulture). 750 m/s boost, 25 ly jump range, can outrun a threat 8 NHSS.

I'm using a Chieftain to collect materials in RES sites, provided there isn't any cargo aboard all the NPCs only scan and move on leaving me to carry on collecting the guts of last victim, it works really well. It's basically a bounty hunting ship with collector limpets. It certainly has no problems collecting in USS sites either.

Great ideas, thanks. Yeah credits aren't an object at all, and still haven't bought a Cutter just because I haven't found a good use for it yet so I never bothered.

I did want something with a medium landing pad, but forgot about the Chieftain and Dropship. So the larger ships would be out.

The bonus of the AspX, Python and FAS is that I have enough G5 (Pre 3.0) in my storage to pretty much upgrade them right away without having to do any engineering.

Think the Viper, Vulture and FDL might just be too small for the limpets and I tried prototypes with my Vulture and FDL, but internals had too little space for my liking as I want to store a good number of limpets to spam out.

So maybe a new Python since I have the mods already in storage for a lot of it or might be just fine or maybe I'll just try out a Chieftain and see how it does.

Thanks for the suggestions...
