Looking for feedback on Penetrator and Overload effects on missiles.

I saw the video from Julio Montega how they tested overload missiles in 2.1. Seems like the thermal effect is rather sub-par, not good against shields, and perhaps not worth getting? Anyone got anything positive to say about this effect?

Penetrator effect looks a touch more interesting, especially if combined with sturdy mount... and perhaps then good at taking out internals, but then, presumably worse against hull? So, maybe good for knocking out the PP..... but if you want a hull killer, then maybe not the best idea to get that effect?

Perhaps the only one worth getting is drag munitions.

Can anyone relate thier experiences with missiles? Especially with these two effects?
 
I have no experience of penetrator and overload but I did engineer 3 rapidfire pilons for my Anaconda. I use them in conjunction with 2 overcharged pulses and 3 overcharged multicannons (two size 3 and the big one underneath is a 4 and has incendiary rounds). With this combo shields go down really fast and by the time they do, the rapid fires missiles have locked up quickly so I can get salvo after salvo away to breakdown the hull on gunships and the like.

NPCs aren't the problem. I've been playing in open recently and they work with less experienced pilots but it's much harder work when they know what they're doing. After the first salvo they chaff so you lose your advantage after the first hit. So I dont think seekers are a good fit for open but I'm sticking with it for a while. Overall I like them.

Thanks, so the missiles are doing decent hull damage when you don't target external subsystems? Or you use them for externals?
 
Have you never been ganked by missile boats? Just turn your butt to them and see how your thrusters take the punishment.

Yes, i have. Shields down, thrusters gone, boom.

But not my question. I know they work well against thrusters. But 0% thrusters don't make you go boom! Its the follow up usually that does that. Can missiles provide that follow up?

I have yet to encounter or use penetrator missiles. I do have some experience with the torpedoes, but they are likely different enough to make most comparison difficult.

I have been attacked by overload missiles on numerous occasions, but since I run thermal resist on my shields, the difference is minor. They may actually be beneficial against reactive hulls however, which are vastly more common than mirrored nowadays.

Have you never been ganked by missile boats? Just turn your butt to them and see how your thrusters take the punishment.

The only ship I have that's not faster than missiles has ~350 thruster integrity.
