Newcomer / Intro looking for help bulying docking computer...

I( am in cuachini. I have been checking industrial and high tech stations for a docking computer. I have had no luck at all. if someone could point me t o a system not exceedingly far from cuachini that has one I would be greatfull.

most system does have docking computer, if not all.. but u have to replace right slot m8

its the bottom slot, where ur scanner is, I usually replace that one with docking system

Where ur basic discovery scanner is.. I replace it with standard docking computer

Make sure to look for 'Standard Docking Computer'. I forgot this once, and spent ages looking for it in the 'D' section (when sorted by names) before I found it when sorted by price (I knew it wasn't expensive). I have one fitted to my Anaconda, and it does work quite well (it is not as quick as a well practised pilot, but is OK on larger ships).

I don't know how long you gyus have been playing but I suspect you'll lose the docking computer again at some point...
i only tried it a few times(5-6) back in the beta day and it was slow as hell to actually land your ship, so I got rid of it and learned to dock my self... Also there was some kind of bug with back then when trying to dock at outposts it sometimes almost freezed hoovering above the landing pad instead of just slowly desend down on the pad it just kept hoovering ???

Also be avare that the docking computer cannot see if a huge type 9 comes through the mailslot and therfor you might ran into it if you completly rely on that piece of software leftovers from apple :D

They are pretty common, and as others have said go in a cargo or scanner slot, not on the weapons page (4 weeks exploring and I have forgotten all the terminology)
Don't listen to the 'proper pilots don't use a dc' , they are a perfectly sensible for anything cobra or bigger, smaller ships it is arguable if they are worth one of the reduced number of slots

The DC is much better than it was in the past, it will take some avoiding actions (within limits) if another ship gets too close, and will wait in a queue if there are other ships leaving. Occasionally it can get hung up when the NPC ships leaving are queuing waiting for the ships that are docking, and vice versa, but this isn't a regular occurrence. It also isn't colour blind, so it tries to stay on the green side of the slot.

i have been playing since Beta too, and never used until the other day. I have kids so use the DC to take care of their needs while this slow ass computer lands.

Using the DC for entry into the large stations is fine. I tend to give it a hand and line up quite close to the letterbox before slowing down to allow it to kick in. Works a treat - entry and docking at pad fairly quick and smooth.
There is a problem though when landing at Outposts - I think this may be for anyone flying the larger ships. I am in a Dropship at the moment, and although the DC does work at Outposts it seems to take forever, so at Outposts I turn it off and dock manually.
DC is relatively cheap - about 1k I think - but, as others have said, you may have to give up your scanner slot to fit one in.

Simple question @ the OP

which ship?

IMO, I repeat IMO, it's a waste below Lakon T-7. I accept that if you are a player with co-ord problems it is immaterial and I don't mean to be bullish or overbearing if that is the case.

ive just got one to try it.....its ok ,,,,a labour saving device...i will probably sell it again... ....BUT it wont find the letterbox or landing pad for you ...you still have to find them yourself ,,,then it takes over....you also get the original Elite landing music which is a nice touch.... :)

Are you sure you are using it correctly ? I mean if you have to fly in through the letterbox AND fly to you landing pad, then why would it be called a docking computer ???

i think you just need to request docking permission and fly close to the station and then drop you speed to near zero and then the docking computer should kick in and take you throug the letterbox and/or find your landing pad for you otherwise it's not a docking computer but only a desent computer whitch isn't worth much imo....

I use the docking computer and it has one big advantage that a pilot does not!

If it screws up/hits a ship or lands wrong, you do not blow up, you appear outside the mail slot and it tries again.
I had this happen after 1.2
On the 3rd loop round I disabled the DC(right panel), cancelled docking, I then re-aligned on the mail slot, requested docking permission and DC docked ok:)
Standard DC costs 4,500cr.

sorry not made that clear......at a space station you have to fly and get the letterbox in sight ,,,then it takes over and lands you at your numbered pad ........ at an outpost you also have to fly and get your numbered landing pad in sight...then it will take over and land for you...

Quicker, usually. And instead of cursing you get music.

I would agree that it appears quicker with a ship like the T7

The pitch response in manual is really slow.... with the DC in action it looks much more responsive

the only "twitchy" moment is the very, very last moment deployment of the landing gear... which can cause a slight murmur of panic the first time it happens !!!

Spending your time getting the letterbox in sight is the main time. Getting onto the landing pad is not a problem.
