Hi,

Well if you get a voice pack from: http://hcsvoicepacks.com/ they have just about everything configured. As for the Hotas X setup its a bit hard to recommend anything. I have several friends who have had one and they all used different configurations. I think your best bet is to find what works best for you. I will give a basic explanation of how I had mine setup (I have since moved on to an X55 which is awesome).

Note that in my case Button 8 was in a different location on the throttle but accessible with my thumb.

I hope this helps!

I wouldn't recommend either. Saitek products are really badly made. They're flimsy and unreliable. Any joystick that has to be held to the table with sticky pads isn't a good joystick and if you do some searching you'll find loads of threads posted by x52 and x55 owners bemoaning the fact that they're on their 3rd, 4th and even 5th replacement.

I too have heard stories of X55's being badly made but my experience with it so far has been great. The only thing I have had to do is lubricate it a little bit. Personally, for the price I think the X55 is great. The main reasons I got it instead of the X52 Pro is that it was cheaper and it has more buttons/switches.

would you recommend the x55 over the x52 pro as i was thinking of getting the x52

I have a Thrustmaster HOTAS-X which I've been using since ED started. It has had literally thousands of hours use and still works fine. I fired up the config app recently and it still tracks perfectly. Thrustmaster build good kit.

A couple of months ago I decided I wanted something better than the HOTAS-X and bought an X-52. I used it for about an hour and sold it on ebay - good riddance. Since then I've also tried out a friend's X-55 and a Warthog, but I prefer the HOTAS-X to both (although the feel of the Warthog stick is really nice). The HOTAS-X is the only hotas that has a physical central detent and deadzone on the throttle, so if you like to map the throttle full-range it is a perfect match. The stick is very comfortable and the buttons are well placed. The only downside is the lack of a second hat on the stick and the need to sacrifice a couple of buttons in order to make shift commands work.

IMHO if Thrustmaster made a HOTAS in between the HOTAS-X and the Warthog, priced to compete with the X-52, with a stick just like the Warthog (but in plastic and slightly "twitchier" to use) and a throttle just like the HOTAS-X but with a few more base toggle switches and at least one hat, it would destroy Saitek sales.

PS - The only setup I'd consider using in preference to the HOTAS-X would be a CH Products Combatstick +Throttle+Pedals, a much more expensive rig.

Am I being stupid - do you just direct VA to this profile and that's it - because I cannot get any of them to work - or do I need to have a different joystick choice with Elite Dangerous as well.

I was thinking that because I have messed around in ED to get my Thrustmaster HOTAS X to use the buttons I wanted - this has prevented your VA profile from working. Do I need to find an un-edited HOTAS X profile first?

When configuring your controls, you can configure a HOTAS input for a function and also a keyboard function (just about all controls can have 2 different inputs).
The best thing to do is setup your HOTAS as you want it and then for each control click the second input field and then speak the command. VA will fill in the required key.

I hope that make sense.

Couple of things:
1) It is a very good idea to do several runs of the Windows Speech Recognition (CTRL panel) first. The more you do it the more accurate it gets and the better commands you will be able to use in VA
2) You can completely manually set up VA if you prefer: As @Arimus says, most controls from the HOTAS will be keybound also. If you go to VA profile, you can then edit things in the panel, which also means you can add time delays, multiple keystrokes, macros etc. Therefore for example you could create macro for max shields which, in order, presses down key (default for balance power) then pushes right key three times. You type something like "Shields Up" (without quotes) into the VA bar at the top of the command, and presto, when you say Shields up it will execute that command.
Quite a popular one I use is the "Run" voice command. This simultaneously retracts hardpoints, fires chaff @ 10 second intervals, balances power to shields and engines, boosts engines every 10 seconds and commences FSD charge. All I need to do is steer!
Enjoy!

Here's my Voiceattack profile which you're welcome to use/modify/whatever. It's got everything I find I need to use alongside my HOTAS X. I never need to touch the keyboard. You will need to register VA though as this has way more than the basic 20 commands allowed in the free version.

Thank you very much for the profile. Since it has to correspond to specific key bindings, may I ask on which mapping your profile is based? On the ingame HotasX preset or on an edited (your personal) binding? If the latter, could you make that available, too?
Thanks in advance,
Daniel
