Looking for info on Flashfire Cobra V5 HOTAS combo

Yo folks and o7!

First let me say hi - been away for a few weeks due to a variety of issues; back now. :)
Now to business:
I have a new joystick; had it about a month or so. It is, as the title says, a Flashfire Cobra V5 HOTAS combo, which as I understand it is a knockoff of a more widely regarded system.
Whichever - it works for me, it was in my price range and is WAY better than the $30 Walmart stick I had before.

It has integrated well with ED; I have no technical issues.

What I am asking is this: I've been trying to configure the thing and having a bit of trouble. I'm needing to learn to fly FA/Off all over again lol - I wiggle around like a fish on a hook, the throttle buttons seem hard to reach and items that should be right there - such as boost, FA switch, etc. always seem one inch too far from the thumb. If you have this type of stick - or any HOTAS system - what setup do you prefer in your own game? Where do you personally put - for example - targeting, linear thrust, et cetera? What I've got is ok for now, but I'm sure it could be GREATLY improved. Any tips 'n ticks using a HOTAS within ED would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks! And cheers. :)

I have a Saitek X 52 Pro.
I use a button on the throttle (Clutch button) for my Fire group 2 button. I use the Fire 2 button on the stick, for “boost”. On the throttle I use a spring loaded button for momentary “FA Off” and a slider on the throttle for “FA Off” toggle. That involved making the dead zone very large.

Using the momentary “FA Off” is handy for combat and the toggled “FA Off” for straight flying. Having the “Boost” on the stick means I can use the trigger and Boost one handed.

I hope this helps you decide what to do.
