Ships Looking for more firepower

So... as much as I'm loving my Vulture, I'm looking for something with a bit more... "teeth"... Sure the "God Mode" level shields for its size (I'm sitting on just over half a gigajoule of shielding), a pair of Large hardpoints, and tight turn radius are great, but I don't have much in the way of tactical flexibility. That kinda bothers me... So how I earn a living right now is by acting as a sort of "Moral Merc" by defending systems from other invading systems. I have 17.4 million credits to spend (not nearly enough to purchase anything significant) and I've been thinking of kitting out a ship for Rare trades (like a cobra or T6) to earn more cash relatively quickly.

So here's the builds I'm thinking of if I go Rare trading.
Cobra build: http://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_iii/04D4D4A3D3D3D4C------030303f201f2.AwRj4yKA.Aw1-kA==
Type-6 build: http://coriolis.io/outfit/type_6_transporter/03D4D4A2D3D2D4C-----04040303f3f2f2.Iw1-kA==.Aw1-kA==

As for returning to my merc duties, I was looking at the Federal Dropship (when I have the credit balance and ranking) but I view those as just a light snack during combat, it makes me wonder if I should even bother with it or move on. Imperial Clippers are a little more feisty with those dual Large Hardpoints and a pair of mediums. Or am I looking at this the wrong way?

The FDS with a C3 Beam and 4 medium Multi's tear's thing's up, and that 2 rating on manuverabillity is very deceptive as you can flip it fast and be shooting behind you without turning off flight assist. I loved fighting in mine while I had it, and will be getting one again after I get a Python.

The FDS is still a ship that is on my radar - once I figure out a decent loadout I might even take the plunge!

Always thought the Vulture was a one trick pony, good at taking down almost anything in 1v1 and as a pack taking down everything! One of the reason I eventually got bored with mine...

Assuming your Vulture is worth about 15mil and you said you have 17.4 Im working with a rough estimate of a total worth of 33mil which honestly isn't much for what I had in mind :p

I was going to suggest a Python at D grade for roughly 80mil but thats a bit over the range.
D grade Fer de lance is also too much at 60mil and has so many power/heat problems I don't even want to suggest it :p
There is the much faster and slightly better armed Imperial Clipper which isn't far off if you D grade it thats about 40mil.

Finally as suggested above the dropship is probably the closest. I haven't flown one myself so can't comment on that really but this build is close to your current cash situation..

I'd maybe look at a full laser set-up like this but thats up to you, also depending on what your doing adding KWS or other things may be an idea.

Actually... I think my Vulture is worth around 10 mil-12 mill in-game (http://coriolis.io/outfit/vulture/04A5B4B3E5A4C3C1e1e0505050m4b36---.AwRj4zyA.AwiMIywo). I was thinking about some Rare trading to build up my balance and I was thinking that I what ever I left the hanger with I wasn't going to do so without an extra few million for insurance in the new combat ship. So getting the newer ship was going to be something I work towards. Basically, I'm window shopping right now.

For rare trading you'd want an ASP really. Its a bit of a downgrade in combat from the Vulture but can hold its own in a fight. With that jump range the rare goods runs will be a breeze with a fuel scoop.

If you can rare goods trade to about 80mil assets you can quite quickly to jump into a trading Python:

Once you have a trading Python the credits roll in. With medium pad access and ~280T of space you can rack up the extra 110mil needed to make it an epic combat ship.

My advice, others would probably say going via the Clipper or Dropship is a good route but personally I find shooting for that trading Python is best way to go. Doing community goals is a pretty amazing way of quickly boosting your cash as an fyi :)
