And there are others who hate shieldless freighters for some reason and hate talking even more.
I'm thinking of flying to Payson Hub in normal space, which should take me about 3 months now... I have 752T of Performance Enhancers to keep me going, so it's doable i think. But the mission might be over by then, so maybe I'll hop one more time.
Haha yeah, there are some that feel if you don't fly in a combat rated trading ship (an oxymoron if I've ever seen one) then you deserve to die. There are also others that just enjoy seeing explosions where they know several hours of real life effort have just been wiped from someone else's life, each to their own kicks I guess. Personally I prefer more of a challenge than unshielded traders.
I can probably offer a bit of protection tomorrow sometime, feel free to add me in game (same name, no space, fly UK times on PC) and ping me if you see me online. I will say i'm no expert at combat and it'd be limited to just a few runs because sadly I've got a busy schedule this week.
One tip I can give is to fly an indirect route and learn to live by the radar. Enter the system and fly up/down from the entry star so you have the system splayed out below yo and fly a big exaggerated arc to your target. This makes it super obvious/easy to see anyone that is lining up behind you. If anyone heads your way slow down and drop into normal space or tap twice for emergency drop taking a % point or two of hull damage. After a time period (say 30 seconds) spool up and re-enter supercruise to continue your trip. If they line up again then repeat until they are frustrated and let you go.
The other way is to drop out of supercruise, stay perfectly still and charge the FSD. Wait for the drop sound of them entering from your low-wake and boost back into supercruise whilst they have to wait for their FSD to cooldown before they can pursue.
The above works excellent against 1 opponent, I had one guy literally always let me past on a CG as he got fed-up trying to get a lock. Killed me once and when I next entered the system he literally said "You get a pass from me now, you are too much effort to chase!".
It does not work well against wings, they usually keep 1 guy in supercruise whilst the other drops in on your wake trapping you. You can use it to give yourself time to target and jump to another system though.
