Looking for single Cyclops in Bubble area for casual destruction

I've never engaged an Interceptor. I had followed the thargoid story thus far with moderate interest - went to the Pleiades to experience a hyperdiction, rescued people from burning starports, even killed quite a few Scouts during a CG.

Challenging an Interceptor was a thing I wouldn't have dared at the beginnig of the Thargoid threat - first victories, even with the emerging AX weapons, were had by commanders in wings (I play mostly as a "solo" player, albeit in all modes), and I wouldn't compare my casual piloting skills with the likes of GluttonyFang who solo'd the thargs early on. The need for a specialised ship that wouldn't be useful for much else further discouraged me from a task that, it seemed, could easily be replaced by watching someone else do it on Youtube.

Fast forward to yesterday: having seen the advent of guardian weapons, the Thargoids' advance into the heart of the bubble, and people doing solo kills in small ships, I'm actally sitting in the most recent addition to my ever growing fleet, the engineered Federal Dropship "A Can Of Raid", loaded to the brim with heavy duty hull reinforcements and sporting some guardian gauss cannons and remote relase flak launchers; a ship that doesn't hurt too badly to replace and that I hadn't found a use for until now (thus striking a chord in the completionist that I am).

"The one advantage of the Thargoids' presence in the bubble is the short travel time to find one to test my skills (and ship) against", I think and, after a quick look into the forums, travel to Deneb Algedi, 19 lightyears at a time, to meet my first Interceptor in battle. Since I'm a noob at this and I know it, I decide to start easy. "Smallest one is a Cyclops, NHSS Threat 5", I remember from my travels through the Pleiades, "let's go find one."

This is where reality starts to deviate from the script I had in my head. Every NHSS I encounter has scouts. Threat 3 and 4, granted, scouts only. Threat 7? 8? Nah, not dropping into those yet! But every Threat 5 (and 6) I enter is populated by scouts, and very seldomly an Interceptor soon follows. But over the course of over an hour I don't encounter a single one with only a Cyclops (or Basilisk for that matter). I give up for the day and go to bed.

tl;dr:
In the systems with the most recent Thargoid sightings, before the Thursday attack, are there actually "classic" NHSSs Threat 5 with only a Cyclops present, and I have only been very unlucky so far? Or do I actually need to travel elsewhere to spawn one? I don't want to have to bother with the extra scouts on my first tries. Thank you for your answers.

I started to hunt the Interceptors not long ago (yesterday) and Irandan was the spot to find a single Cyclops but unfortunately it seems that this is no longer working.
For the systems with current attacks you can find some Interceptors but that'll always be with some scouts.
I'm doing some missions from the Aegis Megaships (currently in Xihe and Flech) but you'll find many NHSS empty with these missions, so i think the pleiades are the only region where you'll meet single Cyclops "very fast"

An easy way to find interceptors in the bubble is to go to destroyed mega ships (cargo ships, prison ships, etc) in the systems they are targeting or lingering in.

Good luck OP, have at the xeno scum!

When you get your first kill, all the previous effort required to get to that stage is more than worth it.

Always plot a high wake escape route before engagement, that way you should be able to avoid the rebuy screen (most of the time!)

Happy hunting o7

try this one - James Class Bulk Cargo Ship SOD-7164 is now in 63 G. CAPRICORNI 7 A

This has to be the unluckiest ship I've seen. It's been destroyed in two systems now (how? How? HOW?). Anyhoo - when I was checking it out in DENEB ALGEDI a couple of times a cyclops dropped in to see what's what... I fled in terror as I was in a PvP/E ship (which is fine for scouts), but maybe a way to find what you're looking for. You might need to relog a few times to trigger the right response.

To way wiser minds than me - (i.e. Gluttony / Factabulous et. al.) I think I'm right in saying that it's the numbers that matter - not the type - right. I.e. for sheer preventing an incursion - killing dozens of scouts is more efficient than the odd big ship

+1 to all this. Don't be afraid to flee and try again (and again). Unless you're superhuman - it takes a few goes to figure it out, understand the movements, the best way to line up shots etc. I was literally shaking after I killed my first one - got back to station and must have scraped every wall on docking bay going back in - it's an adrenaline rush for sure - o7

Thank you for the help commanders, I hadn't thought of the megaships despite already having encountered thargoids there during missions in the pleiades. Will try my luck at the weekend.

Haven't tried this on the ship in G. CAP - but I *think* it goes like this. If you drop in and see a bunch of rescue ships flying around - no Thargoid will show. If you drop and see escape pods and no rescue ships - hang around for a couple of minutes a goid may show. I don't think they show if there is lots of activity

Found the ship to be rather unreliable in terms of Interceptors, and then, most of them to be either Basilisks or Medusas. Another option to meet a single Cyclops Interceptor would be the Acropolis which is currently in Xihe (next door) and issues AX missions. Unfortunately, the contents of those 'mission target' NHSS 5 is obviously far from being guaranteed. Spent the whole evening on such a mission and NHSS 5 contained 1. nothing, just a canister and some destroyed ships ~40% of cases. 2. Medusa, well, skip. ~30% 3. Basilisk, another 20%. 4. Cyclops, hooray! One out of 10 attempts. Just as I had to call it a day. But got another six hours left :D

O7,
[noob]
