Looking for system population info

I am currently in Potriti and have read about some good systems but they are all far too distant for my Sidewinder to be able to track a route.

1. Any data available on the player populations for different systems?
2. If I can't map a route in the galaxy map, does that mean the system in unreachable, or is that just what you can get to without refueling?
3. Any suggestions on some systems near Potriti that have a decent population?
