Looking for virtual keyboard under ED VR

Hello
What is your solution to have a virtual keyboard during VR ED session. If there is a solution to write name, coordinates, ........
For me it's the only item who is missing within ED VR.

OK. If you are running Windows 10 you can open a virtual keyboard in Oculus Home:

Press the "O" button on right hand controller to enter Home from ED (ED will keep running).
Point and click the laser at the Desktop button on the Home dashbaord to open Windows desktop.
When Windows desktop opens, point and click the laser at the keyboard icon on the bottom right of the W10 desktop window in front of you.
A grey keyboard should open. Grab the top of it to move it.
Minimise (don't close) the W10 desktop, Oculus dashboard and anything else minimiseablr that obscures the ED cockpit.

I think this Oculus setting is persistent so you should just now be able to press "O" on the hand controller to get a keyboard.

Hope this helps.

No. If you select the text entry box in ED first then press "O" to open KB then you can type in directly using the laser pointer and trigger.. Setting it up as previous post is a bit fiddly but as I said once set up I think the Oculus home environment is persistent so pressing "O" should just put the keybaord in front of you in the ED cockpit.

What would be great is if we can map the Oculus controller "O" button to a button on a HOTAS. Anyone know how to do this?

I have wrote a virtual keyboard that requires a HOTAS or game pad to use. You need something like Oculus Dash or another third party application to display it in Elite, but once displayed you can use it as and when to send text to Elite. If you are interested in it just drop me a PM.

I just lean forward, find my space bar by feel and start typing. Maybe proper typing with the correct fingers is not a common skill but I've had it for so long I can't remember what it's like to not know how to blind type.
Seems like it would be painfully slow to pick up your rift controllers and do a virtual finger stab session to type something in. But no idea how long it would take to get yourself up to speed on typing by feel.

Its weird i can touch type with my pecking method like now im not looking at the keyboard. However, if i try to do it the taditional way i have no idea. I should learn the proper way lol.

The f and j keys on any keyboard have little nubs that I feel for and I just type blind. Just seems more convenient.

Those are the basis of touch typing, same with the "5" in the numerical pad. There are also sticker bump dots to help you further. I still prefer a normal keyboard to a virtual one. Faster and easier to type systems.

Cool, I never knew you could do that. I new of the virtual keyboard but I didn't know it worked while you were inside VR.

Like others, I just grope for my keyboard and use touch typing.

One thing it took me way too long to realize is that eddb.io and other sites have copy buttons which make it easy to cut and paste.
