Ship Builds & Load Outs Looking For Weapons - I Know Dead Horse!

So, I've scoured the web and the galaxy, both in equal investment. For the past four days (love that vacation time), I've combed forums, random sites and worthless opinionated expulsions of inaccurate pontifications all to no avail. I have a Cobra spec'd for RES hunting. It performs rather well all-in-all, but I do have a beast of a time with pythons and anacondas. Although new weapons would help, those will still be challenging.

Alas, I ramble. I currently have F2 gimbaled pulse lasers as my medium hardpoint weapons. I'm starting to fear that I've been taken by misinformation, but I've launched on a search for C2 or C3 gimbaled pulse lasers. After searching high tech, high population and following dozens of random pieces of advice, the best I can find are D2 beam lasers, not a single pulse better than what I have.

Am I a fool? Do these even exist? Maybe they were removed? I'm looking for hope that they do indeed exist and I'll keep at the search.

Appreciate any perspective, ideas or seasoned advice.

You are not a fool. Currently the available weapons only have one grade per class. So there is only one Class 2 gimballed pulse to choose from, but a total of 3 pulse lasers to choose from due to the differences between fixed, gimballed and turreted.

You can't equip Class 3 weapons on the Cobra, your hardpoint size limits you. Your best bet for hunting big ships in it are Class 2 beams to strip the shields and Class 1 cannons or railguns to snipe the powerplant. Or you change ship, get a Vulture and enjoy two Class 3 hardpoints but with very hard choices in equipment due to power restrictions. A bit further off you might like to consider the Imperial Clipper. It's sort of the big brother of the Cobra, but needs Empire rank and quite a lot of money for a combat fit.

Ignore the rating (A, B, C etc) stat on weapons; until we know better, they are basically meaningless.

The main thing to look out for on the outfitting screen is the energy usage, as you don't want to put too much that your powerplant can't handle (when FSD, Scoop, Cargo hatch and other non-essentials in combat are disabled).

Ah. I see where the confusion is coming from. C2 and C3 means Class 2 and Class 3 and have nothing to do with the Rating letters, A-F. You are Currently flying with C2F/G Pulse lasers. That is Class 2 F rating Gimballed pulse lasers.

Currently, every version of the weapon gets a specific rating and there are no alternative ratings, like a C2C/G Pulse. It only exists as F.

This might change with special weapons for powers in the Powerplay update (may 20th... probably late in the evening)

It's likely the higher ratings will come with drawbacks. I had overcharged Multicannon, and it did have higher rating and DPS, but was also an inaccurate spray gun.

You are probably right. And the high velocity (or was that high impact?) MC had less ammunition per clip/belt whatever they use.
