Newcomer / Intro Looking to start mining

Looking to start familiarizing with mining ,As a side gig, Something I can do in between the regular missions..

I tried the hauler equipped with 1 laser and 1 collector pet..
It was slow.. I couldn't know what i'm mining till I got it... And Cargo capacity was really small.

I'm not looking to be a professional miner, maybe in the future, at the moment thou ,I would love to have a ship that will have or aspire to have the following requirements:

Looking for something to go a bit faster breaking asteroid wise.
Would love to know to aim for stuff so I could also do mining missions on the side.So I guss the ship will need either prospector or scanner except the collector pets.
What model of ship I should aim for and what kind of wallet(aka full modification optimized) do I have to buy this separate ship? (I have a Cobra mk3 atm, which i'm happy with keeping as my main ship at the moment)

Thanks for the help [up]

I started in an Adder with no limpets but that isn't exactly a fast way to earn money! Realistically you need a Cobra (Mk3 is a bit limited for slots), or T6 or similar to have enough slots for refinery, collector and prospector limpets plus cargo space and mining lasers. Really though mining really works best with a larger ship, maybe T7 or above. I now use an Anaconda but the Python worked well and I suspect the Clipper would have if I tried it.
.
Try outfitting a few different options in https://coriolis.io/ and you should get an idea of what I mean.
.
P.S. a class 1 mining laser is quite slow

I don't think a medium mining laser gains you very much if you've a single collector, because the collector won't keep up. Even two collectors will have a job to service a small mining laser.

You're always limited by cargo space mining no matter what ship you're in. Bigger the better but when you've seen off the pirates who follow you in from supercruse (and who won't attack ,unless you have a valuable cargo, limpets are not valuable) you'll be left alone, indefinitely. The key thing then, in smaller ship is to have a port, close by, to offload (commodities), restock limpets and repair ideally. If you've got a port close to a metallic ring (best qualiity rocks) you can drop the fuel scoop for more space but you can also stretch the cargo racks you have by treating refinery hoppers as cargo spaces. Fill them to 100% and as you unload in dock, they'll convert to cargo as long as your refinery is powered.

For unloading, High Tech systems are (or at least were) known to give mining missions, a massive boost to cargo value. Factions in Boom and Expansion also spawn mining missions.

I posted here not because Im looking to make money.
My initial path was laid by engineers.Looking for ingredients they asked for.
I'm looking for efficiency.
If I can find what im looking for and on the side do a mining mission then 2 birds one stone woot!

Ty for all the guides to mining but I have those.

Want to call me lazy? you can.

The real purpose is ive browsed all those guides and kinda gave up.
Then thought I try here, If someone can help me with a direct answer that would put me back on the path.

Telling me here's a guide: ships ranging from 100k to 500 mil..chose what you like go try, don't like try another.
Thats exactly what I was looking to avoid,by posting here in the new people thread to get an advise from an experience player as what I need.
I specifically gave the points important to me.

Someone who did this before could advise.
I would rather have help as a new player ,then sip through and waste tons of time trying various models etc.
Think of it as a amplifier ,to pinpoint to a relative solution.

Since you already have the Hauler, I would suggest this setup:
screen-shot-2016-09-23-at-12-48-46-pm.png
I wouldn't bother with shields at all given the limited module slot you have and to be fair, the Hauler being solid as tin foil, interdiction=death.

Another thing I suggest is to drag your Hauler to Wrangell City in the system Snoquot for help and support (or click my sig)

That's just it,
I already tried the Hauler and its not good for me.(That spec you gave is the exact one Ive used plus it was in a guide I already have which is very comprehensive)
I have wrote down the reasons for its fault and also what im looking for.

Looking for advice for a suitable ship for my requirements,So far only Winterwalker is in the direction im looking for.Question is will the T6 worth the effort, also there are some models I think of T6 no? which one do you refer? and how much cash I would have to even consider looking that ship way? (fitted with the suitable mining specs as I have specified)

If your looking for more specific atm my wallet size is 4mil

I think 4m is enough money for a T6 ..

This is a guide to experiment with loadouts .. http://www.edshipyard.com/
(I don't know if it guaranteed accurate prices, but is a guide)

Estimate is to have ready 2 x ship price before buying, so for T6 here, it's 1m credits for ship + 1m credits for modules (leaving you 2m for ship insurance).

T6 is a good ship, small fire power but quite fast (for a cargo ship) and good jump range. The 'Keelback' is a model on T6 but more money, 3m for ship only (from guide) .. maybe too much for today.

This tutorial from CMDR Chaos Wulff taught me everything I wanted to know about mining.

The video is over a year old (so doesn't cover icy rings and uses the old outfitting screen) but does cover loadouts of various ships including the Hauler and T6 plus most (if not all) of the basics.

The T-6 is a good mining ship but 6MCr is a bit low to get good outfitting. If you start in th T-6 with low capacity refinery and then as the cash mounts upgrade to eventually fit a 10-bin 4A (at 4.5MCr). As long as you don't mind just having low-spec outfit to start and have the time and patience to build-up your balance then go for it, just don't be tempted to up the outfitting and skimp on the rebuy.

A cobra can be outfitted to make decent returns, making shorter mining stints and more travelling, a cobraIV even better if you have access to it.

I don't mine but as I understand it you need lots of slots so my suggestions for ships around the price of the T6 would be

Diamondback Explorer
Viper Mk4
Cobra Mk3 actually the Mk4 would be better but it is only available to some backers of the game.

The T6 is according to Coriolis.io buildable with prospector and collector controllers 64tonne of cargo shields twin mining lasers for around 2.3Mcr
It looks as if the T6 is pretty good for any non combat roll.

OK, this is what I would go for with your budget.
Note that this will all need to be purchased @ Li Yong Rui 15% discount systems (Use Inara.cz to locate your nearest suitable system)

https://coriolis.io/outfit/type_6_t...8f42l2l0307070404B3C0C01lP4.Iw1-kA==.Aw1-kA==

You have yourself a T6 outfitted for mining.
Get to ring with nothing but limpets. Boost away until all NPCs are gone and you will be left in peace.
You have watched the videos so you know what to mine - plus when you locate your chosen selling station you will know what missions they generally give for mining so can add to the "3 P's" if you like.

Note: If you are attacked you will be running - start with this loadout which will give you 364m/s boost but probably look to upgrade the thrusters and Power distributor as a priority.

Anyway, that is my advice....and good luck.

Thank you guys..seem the T6 is the voted vessel I need, will do

o7
.
In your price range, yes. But I also dare to say, as soon as you can afford a clipper, get rid of the T6 and use that one. It's higher speed and surviviability are absolutely worth it.
.
PS: It's ages that I saw an anarchy online avatar... way to go. :)

omg the T6 is heaven sent..It didnt cost too much to outfit and it delivers!

Everything I wanted is here, the drons, the cargo space and refinary.

Only disadvantage are the small mining lasers, but those are "rich" man problem..

So happy..thank you guys :)

Good to hear you've made progress but be careful the T6 is a great mining ship but not so great at defending yourself!

Is there a way to mine without interruption from pirates? I get the whole interdiction thing but a more peaceful chill out mining session would be nice once in a while.

One thing to try is when you get to the site sit and wait for a while. Usually pirates will come and scan you and if they see you have an empty hold they go away and don't come back. Works best when you mine away from other ships.

Based on what I've read from other CMDRs, if you travel at least 40km from your jump-in point you are less likely to get followed as NPCs follow low-wakes.
Or better still travel outside the bubble where pristine (high-yield) rings are plentiful and NPCs don't travel to - well not at present, anyway.
