Loot boxes systems are like conditioning rats (eeek)

Quite a write-up on Reddit about making people pay for "digital content" in so called Loot Boxes, a game feature that has potential to make people addicted. Players are conditioned not unlike rats (not to be confused with the Fuel Rats, mind! Squeak!). I even know some youngsters who are really hot on purchasing the next Loot Box to get that shiny "rifle", and some even master the art of buying a box, sell it to someone else at a higher price, and buy new boxes from their deals. Of course there are some scientific papers about it, but this post is quite readable.
I am very happy that Elite does not have such a system, and is straight against "buy your own ship with real money"-crap.* Well done.

*) I personally do not see any comparable problem with the digital content at Frontier Store. Those are just goodies that do not enter the realm of competition rankings, do not make your ship more powerful or anything. They just look good and offer a way to support Elite's development.

Even vanity item lootboxes is a kind of gambling like those in Path of Exile since people purchase a lot of them and get plenty of dublicate items in that hunt for one vanity item skin.
