Losing money to refunds?

My budget was fine, and I was making plenty of money, and things seemed to be going smoothly.... But suddenly I'm losing thousands of dollars to "refunds", listed under "ongoing expenses". What are the refunds? How do I make them stop? Because I'm apparently losing more money to refunds than I am to staff wages and food costs combined.

Here is a quote from BO on what things can be causing those refund to happen.
Hiya,

So it seems like for most of the save files we were sent, there are overlapping educational speakers; this means that guests who walk into this overlapped area have a rapid drop in happiness - causing them to leave and want their money back.
Please check the Education heatmap, and if there's anything red in there: fix it!

Also, if you're running a bad zoo in general, that could cause a lot of unhappy guests too: not enough shops, too much litter, and expensive tickets; also, not having enough shops or having them all in one area only, and staff facilities being far away. Be sure to optimise your zoos in terms of placement: it's important!

We'll continue to look into other possibilities in the meantime :)
Cheers!

Hopefully that helps!!

Okay, so it is refunding guest tickets if they're unhappy? I wasn't even entirely clear if that's what I was refunding... But now that I at least know what the refunds are, it should hopefully be easier to tackle them...
Thank you, and thanks to Bo!

Also check for any staff facilities causing the guests anxiety. Keep in mind that the guests have x-ray vision. Even if you hide a building behind trees or scenery they will still react negatively if it is within range of them. You can check this in the heat map as well.

THIS SAYS IT ALL:

From Me: And the Radius of the Staff buildings to your visitiors. It could be a big problem
