Lost 200K because of human error.

So I was was doing some speed runs to make as much money AS I could in as fast as I can, that at one point I have forgotten to Request for docking. And had zero time to correct my error and got my ship blown up. This is very depressing. Happen to anyone else? Sucks to put all those hours in making all those credits just to lose then in seconds.

Yep! been there. Luckily it was for 1.7 mill Cr, enough to never have done it again.

I can only hope your loss was in proportion to mine. I only say that in the hope the loss was enough to

mean you never let it happen to you again.

Human error is inevitable, though being more careful (and learning from mistakes) mitigates it.

You (and everyone) else will make another mistake before long... better accepting it sooner rather than later

yeah, many a time... reverse thrust is usually quicker than turning but you probably already know that. Another good reason not to boost into a station unless absolutely necessary

Remember, less haste, more speed!

I spatted my ASP (900,000 rebuy) with hold full of rares into an asteroid just this morning... wasn't looking where I was going... D'oh!

That sucks. Remember, loitering is a violation punishable by death. And yes, I have done that on more than one occasions. Not ending fatally every time though ;)

oh I hope it does not happen again! lucky still had 25k at the end. They need to make it easier and faster to request docking permissions. :p

The number of times I entered the docks at full speed and splashed against the back wall is unbelievably high.

Agree, we just need a control key binding to push. Don't know why it's not implemented yet because it's silly forcing people to use convoluted panels for simple functions like asking docking permission.

To request docking access today the following steps must be completed:
Shift-A (to open left UI panel)
2xE (to select the third tab "contacts"
Down arrow to select station
Space
Down arrow to select Docking option
Space

Please tell me now if there is an easier way to do it.

Set yourself strict launch/docking procedures, mine are:

Finish at station, hit launch and then select destination as Ship moves to pad, on release move up and line up with letterbox ,full throttle, when sure no ones coming in and I'm lined up right gear up and out letter box.

On approach to station 6km out request docking, confirm landing pad number on blue notification, when lined up with letterbox full throttle and gear down, head for pad and touch down.

If you drill the procedure into your brain it does it automatically for you, well works for me anyway, haven't forgot to request docking or boosted into station wall since I set the procedure for myself weeks ago.

Good luck.

P.S

I fly a T9 which is slow, you may need to change the full throttle bits for faster ships.

*Really?*
You just described a 6-step procedure. Do you really need me to spell it out how much easier it can be? Alriiight, hold on to your learning hat:

Key binding: Open UI panel
Key binding: Select Station
Key binding: Request docking procedure

Got it? That's 50% easier. And that's if you *don't* want want to go *really* easy and just have:

Key binding: Request docking procedure to selected target

I actually like the current procedure, 'cause you having to interact with the in-game menus makes for nice immersion. But it's okay. I was just pointing out how many kinds of wrong you were.

Similar for me....takes about 1/10 of a second to ask for docking permission
But.....I did have to leave the station and request docking again after my landing pad did not light up  ..
(make sure you exit before cancel and request again)

Yep, and it's not the only daft mistake i've ever made. My fat thumb (pad) catches the boost button in addition to the landing gear button once in a while... not recommended!

Simply a rite of passage; happens to all of us. Welcome to ED!

This!

Yep you never forget your first "OhmigodIforgottorequestdock" moment.

I *ALMOST* made it out of the station in time. I think my cloud of debris made it out of the letterbox.

I've never forgotten since thankfully.

Did exactly this in my Clipper last night.
Realised my mistake and managed to reverse out and got a 500 cr fine.
Probably won't be the last time either.

Yeah I don't think I'm quite that quick but I do it in about half a second. Don't actually get what the problem is with people using it unless it's the instra-gratification mob or the ones who think they should be able to set it completely auto to build up money to... go play Eve? Dunno.

Yep, done that a few times.

What is even more embarrassing is setting up your flight path to another system and the jump point is behind you when leaving the station. Hey no problem, just come around 180 degrees. Hit full throttle when exiting and then boost! Forgets station has a ring! BOOM!

Yep, a lot of people have.

My latest one was in my ASP for 400k. Only it was even more absent minded. I accidentally trespassed, so I backed out to wait for the timer to go away and my docking permissions to return. Only I wasn't paying attention, and I was obstructing the letterbox, so that timer started counted down, and i didn't see it so i got shot down for that.

*sigh*

Makes you really want to never make the mistake again, so it's doing its job. heh.
