Yet another quirky game design. Cycle crunch time is on a "need to know" basis, and apparently we needn't know...

Decidedly british. Learn to love it, or suffer indefinitely.. ;)

Someone in the know will come around shortly and tell us. Hopefully...

They NEED to be submited before the cycle ends. Galnet always posts a reminder for us before so we have time to do it. Either way, now you know.

When the servers go down thursdays at 3am EST, 7am in UK and blahblahtimezones, this is when the cycles are being reset.

Do you need to wait until the last moment to cash in or can you do it as you go along?

You can do it as you go along provided you are not planning on defecting to a different power. Its just if you are doing combat in another factions territory then you may not go back as often as you perhaps should :)

New to the PP grind I missed this last week (only did it so I could become Rating 3 and buy the imperial hammers). I actually didn't understand I needed to cash in my undermining kills. FD support was kind enough to give me the 1005 merits I had earned towards the cycle that closed today. So now I'm Rating 3 and rocking the Imperal Hammers. Later today I'm defecting :)

Don't you know that's what happens IRL too? Haven't you been watching the news where ISIS lost out over 26000 points because their members didn't cash in on time?

how so?

e;d just gave you a valuable lesson if you care to learn it: this isn't supposed to be work, but a game you best enjoy while playing. (*1)

also ... why do you actually want that much merits for? they are practically worthless. if you want credits then grinding for credits directly is way more efficient, at your own pace and without liability from cycle changes. and if you want to experiment with faction modules you don't need that many either, 750 for the first week, the following around 300 which will take a couple of hours max (considerably less since the last patch, if you do undermining or cz's).

*1 ok, you might enjoy work. then you would have had your fun and nothing to complain about.

Also note: Any merits you have stored are lost if you die

Top tip right there is to set yourself a limit on what you'll be ok with loosing. For me its 50 ships or about 750 merits, when I get over that I'll look at doing a quick trip to return and re-stock, I mean with a fuel scoop even a sidewinder can cross human space in 2 hours or so. With a decent ship and being close to your power you are talking a 30 minute detour to secure your merits :)

Sound advice.

First, it says when to turn them in inside Galnet. If your game has a news station it would be a good idea to read it often. Second holding on to them is not a good idea in the first place. This game does not hold your hand. So it would be wise if you want to accomplish something or have a set of goals in mind to do some research so you can set yourself up for success. This is a valuable life lesson as well. You can take what you learned here and apply it to life.
