General / Off-Topic Lost a Monitor playing ED

Greetings,

Two ASUS PB278Q 27" monitors that can do 2560x1440. I own three. One went out with the power button flashing blue. I only use two for ED and replaced it with my third monitor I wasn't currently using on another computer for a quick fix. In Window terms call it the power flashing button the "black screen of death". This happens a lot with monitors with Samsung, LG, Vizio, ASUS and others as they are all designed pretty much the same. The solution?

Blown electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. They are obvious per the bulges at the top of their casing. In this case six 680uf at 25v. Replace them and the monitor is operational. One can even go higher with the specs but it is not required nor will make a real difference. Caps simply store energy for applying it to different circuit systems as required. When I was working for Samsung I replaced them on too many TVs and monitors to remember them all. They had a bad batch of caps. Anyway if you get the blue flashing light you know what to do. Buy a soldering iron and watch a few YouTube videos. It is not all that hard. Disassembling the unit can be sneaky especially with the latest ones that don't use screws in the back panel. Watch a few YouTube videos on that. You'll be fine.

Understanding everything there is to know in Elite Dangerous and being great at all of it? It might be easier getting a Doctorate degree and a professorship in nuclear fusion as the physics don't change a lot but every update in ED does. Besides it would pay a lot more. :)

Regards
