Lost boost, and entry into exploring

Hello, first post here. So I started to equip my cobra for exploring a day or two ago and was reading about only really needing to have an A class fsd and should have a d class in most everything else is preferable. So with that in mind I bought the best fsd I could at the station I was at and sold/downgraded the other parts that weren't needed or taking up mass. In that process I lost boost function, is that because I need a better power plant or distributor or is there something else I did wrong?

I'm currently working on getting an advanced discovery scanner, I still need some extra cred for that. After that is there anything else that is good to have exploring. Also I even sold my weapons except one to see if that dropped the power use down low enough but it still is resting at 88%( will check later I'm currently not in game).

Regards,
Jaden

Upgrade your Cobra's power distributor if you want to boost.

I hear a detailed surface scanner can double your exploration income, so cram one in there somewhere next to the fuel scoop or something. Ill be off exploring soon enough, whether i get lazy and fly off now in a type 6 or wait patiently for an asp.

If you can do a bit of grinding and get an advanced discivery scanner - detail surface scanner and the largest fules scoop you can fit in - you will see great increase in exploration earnigns ... to become elite you will need about 160 hours of playing with being really selective on what you scan...

Not sure for elite if it is 99.000.000 - i earned 9 million in 45 hours (10 days of evening play let's say ) maybe 400 hours to become elite ... that's 3 months of exploring ... good luck .

Thanks for the reply's, starschulz that was what I was thinking but wasnt sure.

I have started with a jump range of just over 20 LY and the intermediate scanner with the surface scanner, hope that will get me to the advanced a little faster.

I'm currently about half way to Betelgeuse from inhabited space jumping using the ECO route so I hit more systems.

Only having a 20Ly range isn't much of a hindrance if you're heading into the centre of the galaxy, but it become a problem out on the edge where stars get further apart. Only having the intermediate scanner will cut your profits a fair bit but is a decent start. Most of the high value stuff is nearer the star usually, so the range of the intermediate will let you get some of them at least. Upgrade as quickly as you can though. If you're out to make some cash I'd set your galactic chart only to show the F,G and K series stars as these are the most earth-like and likely to have easily explored systems. Avoid the rest unless you're bored and want to see something different, and avoid binaries as they can be dangerous to jump into and rarely have earth-like or water world planets. My strategy these days is to jump as fast as I can out a 1000 or so light years and then start meandering in a direction for a week or so of evenings play. I then run back and cash in, averaging about 3.5 million a trip.

I also was wondering if there is a good method of avoiding interdiction? It seems like i'm getting one every system and sometimes two or three. I heard that the frequency has gone up in the latest patch, if thats the case then it is really annoying sometimes. I know that once I get out far enough then I will stop seeing NPC's but almost ever jump I make there is one around the star and some around the planets I am scanning.

This is why I run for 1000 Ly as fast as I can. I don't carry weapons so I just jump far & fast, scooping as I go. Interdictions stop after 3-5 hundred light years so I am rarely interdicted if at all. I carry a chaff launcher so if pulled over I just run for it and dump chaff as I wriggle around to avoid their fire until the FSD kicks in.
