Lost in Space...

so given that i am more than 50lys from where i want to be and with no landmarks, familiar systems or sense of direction or much of a clue at all really... how the heck, using the clunky old navigation system and my brain cells, do i get there?

any advice and guidance would be appreciated

yours sincerely

Ive looked at the galaxy map yes, and i can see where i have to go. But even scrolling in out and around i cant get an intermediate point to aim at and i keep going to places and finding im still around the same distance..Logged out now and will have a thinky about it.

Ah yes, i suppose i could head randomly and see if im closer or further away, head in an appropriate direction and keep doing that till i get till to 50...

The galaxy map can take some time to plot potential jumps out to distant systems. Either go and make a coffee and come back, or select a less distant system in the same general direction. The further you're travelling the more potential routes there are, so it takes longer to plot the links.

How far are we talking here?

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the map controls:

Hold left mouse button: circle around the target
Hold right Mouse button: move up and down (Z-Axis)
Hold left and right mouse buttons at the same time: move around on the current galactic plane (X- and Y-Axis)

In case you didn't know that should make things easier.

The Galaxy Map will calculate routes up to ~70ly. For greater distances just use this handy tool. If you're totally lost and want to get back to civilization try selecting Eranin, Lave, Sol or Achenar.

LOL, Actually I didn't add Achenar as a new player needs a permit to get there. Might be confusing. Oh wait...Now a new player who purchased after Dec 16th would also need a permit for Sol. Oh well. Post updated.

Route planner. Wait for the available routes to be calculated (automatic - just wait), and when you see lines and dotted lines you know its done. If there is a solid or dotted line to the system you want to go - click route planner and set it. No just jump jump jump without thinking. Well, dont forget about fuel.

im sure you will all be relieved to know that i found my way back. my problem was that i was actually going to the wrong place ie not where i thought i was going. and i was stuck in the back of beyond with not many outposts and mainly red and brown dwarves for company so not many opportunities for fuel scooping. so got a brown wiggly line to follow and kept adapting it to fit my range as it seemed to go all over the place with lots of short hops. so now back in civilization and with a cargo of rare items, have fuelled up and repaired my ship. so think i will take a break for now. thanks for all your input. i really need to get to grips with the nav chart. any help would be welcome! safe flying, commanders
