Newcomer / Intro Lost my first Dispatch questline

When I hit Midshipman with the Federation, I got a mission called a Federal Dispatch to basically just show up at a faraway port. When I got there there was another dispatch mission waiting for me, but I got distracted by other things for a while. Looking it up on the wiki, it seems these dispatch lines are necessary to unlock access to systems, particularly Sol.

I've tried to retrace my steps and find the dispatch trail, but to no avail. Is there any way to to restart the dispatch line so I can get my Sol permit?

it's not a quest chain. when you reach a certain reputation threshold there is a chance you will get a rank up mission offered. that will keep happening until you finally complete a rank up mission. so just carry on as normal and any station with a federal presence will have a chance of offering another rank up mission.

There are no questlines in ED. What you had was a badly worded permit, that implies you should go to the destination, but currently in game there is no actual reason to go to the named system. Keep doing stuff for the Feds and the next mission will appear in due course.

Are you absolutely positive you don't already have a Sol permit...?... ie... you have checked the permits section in the right hand panel ???

Mine appeared after the invite to go and meet....blah, blah

I actually did nothing at all

I will check the next time I log on, but last I checked my permits list was empty. Status with the Federation is definitely Neutral reputation and Midshipman rank.

I just checked, and I don't have any permits. Did another rank up mission, which scored me the next rank but still no invitation.

EDIT: I logged out, and then back in (for other reasons) and now I have the Sol permit in my list. Odd.

Just a quick update: I hit another rank with the Federation and immediate got an Federal Invitation to the PLX 965, which I accepted and instantly got access to the system. Next time I log in, I have two MORE permits sitting there (for Beta Hydri and Vega) that weren't there the previous night. Now, my home station always has at least one, if not two Federal Invitations for PLX 965 that of course I cannot accept because I've already got the permit...

Perhaps I should visit the bug reports forum where it is...
