Horizons Lost NPC Pilot help

OK, got my ship destroyed and did not know that my NPC Pilot would need to be replaced. I am sad but hey it is a game.
Anyway. I was wondering if there was any way to get the same Pilot back. I don't care if I have to level him again. I just got attached.

Silly, I know.

Sorry, they are dead, or if you like they start off at your last station like you but refuse to fly with you again..... I have been through SOOOO many, i feel your pain...

If only the escape pod I used had room for two, the odd thing is when I look down the side of Annconda I see quite a few pods waiting for the day they might be needed, I know the reasoning behind the fact that NPC crew die when the ship goes down, dont agree with it, but there you go. I mean their not even the captain just the hired help.

Nope as said above they are forever space dust, the only thing to do is check the crew lounge and start again. I think thats why a lot of people just hire and fire, Im like you OP, I started to get attached, I know its only a game but when you put time and effort into somthing a bond is formed, (hell people get attached to plants...) and when it all goes belly up it can be a kick in the knackers.

For me NPC crew as is, is on the "they could have done better list".

The Devs talked about this a while back, and due to the fact that you have to checkout the pilot to your ship, they put it on the object that is your ship, and for some strange reasons, when your ship is destroyed, they looses your pilot!!! so when you are at your rebuy screen, they are have now thrown the object where your pilot is recorded on out the window and so they cannot reinstate your pilot

I find the devs talk about this explanation a bit full of crap, since they still manages to let you buy back your ship, with all your engineered parts, so they did not delete that information. So how come they cannot find the information about your pilot aswell? So the more likely cause of this, they messed up the implementation of your hired crew, and simply forgot to add this function to the rebuy screen, and they know it, and it might get fixed in a future update, until then we have to live with either of these lies:
* Your pilot is top dumb/stupid/etc to get to the escape pod, and is destroyed when your ship explodes
* Your pilot refuses to work with you ever again, so once rescued from escape pod, will always stay clear of you....

Pick anyone that eases your logic of the bad game design and go with it.

I lost a pilot due to I had forgotten that I had my pilot with me and simply pushed the limits a bit to far in a fight, and there goes one Elite pilot... bye, bye... I missed her alot more than then 26 million rebuy of my Anaconda..

lol, what a great feature if you could go to your own wreck site and recover your pilots?

Or if someone else could. Could be a great little side adventure rescuing your crewmates.

Wish crew had more offensive and defensive stats too.

Or someone else picking them up and selling them off as slaves

I would like to get the same pilot back, (Name and background) (I am fine with leveling them up again). I am not sure if it is possible to find the same one ever again. I would love a dev to let us know how these are generated. I never seem to see a repeat name. I wonder if they have a random generator for them?

It's a teeny tiny flavour of rouge-like gameplay here.
Gone is gone!
This makes the loss more real than if we just could replace the NPC with an equal looking clone.

Frustrating?
Of course!
But losing a comrade-in-arms should be sad and frustrating, shouldn't it?

I understand the qualms about consistency. Why do we survive, but not our crew members? It's somehow illogical.
But it does create quite an emotional effect. And this is a good thing, in my view. Emotions in games (even grief) are desirable. There are little enough consequences in ED anyway.

OK, I have interesting news here. I am not even sure I should post this. I went to support and explained my situation the same way as here and they sent back no problem. I got my guy back the next day.

I would not think they would do this if I were serially killing off my pilots. But in this case I got my guy back. I will be more careful from now on, especially that I know that is a possibility.

Thanks!

Support rock! Simple as that!

Pilots are randomly generated tyo set criteria.
If you lose one, they can reappear for hire (of course they may have varied appearance, stats and will need re-levelling again)
The game does not feature a galaxy population, but algorithmically generates characters in suöercruise, stations and so on as required
