Maybe your caps lock is preventing you calling a taxi via the quick menu? 
P.S. Your ship is safe where you left it (I hope).

Your ship will be wherever you left it. If it was parked up at a port, it will be there. If you were on a planetary surface it spawns to orbit so you'll have to take an Apex taxi to a station with shipyard and recall it, or a planetary port will do. To call for a taxi when on foot, open up the Insight panel and navigate on the left hand side to the Apex icon.
