Using the 'Heli-bud' is a bit of an art and requires you to create long slipstreams with your finger in order to get the most out of it. Usually the only way to get to where you need with the helibud is to do it in the fewest possible swipes of the finger, so make sure that it has almost travelled as far as it will go before swiping it again.
