Lots of new ships.....but no new SRV announcement?

I'm kind of surprised no new SRV's were announced. There is a ship for every job, and I would have thought the same could be done for SRV's without sacrificing size of slots in ships.

Combat SRV - dual cannons, better shielding, but at a cost of speed and maneuvering. No cargo space.
Mining SRV - no defenses except for a mining laser only, extra space devoted to cargo capacity. No shield module.
Exploration SRV - tougher one, beyond what we already have. Extended sensor ranges and more detailed scans with remote identification of materials. Limited cargo space.
Standard SRV - what we have now.

You partly answered your own question - there is a ship for every job Because there are jobs for ships to have.
That isn't exactly the case on the surface. There is only one job on the surface - to shoot rocks and scan terminals. One job - one SRV.

Devs said in the past that they would like to add more SRV types (stress on "would like" as opposed to "will") but they will only do so once they managed to add gameplay to the planets that would suit and justify another SRV type.

All we need is a hauling SRV that carries like 10t of cargo

Honestly, I don't think that even if we receive new SRVs, they will be bigger than Scarab. Seeing how tightly Scarab has to fold itself to fit the SRV hangar, I don't see much room for 5x more cargo capacity. :)

That's easy. We need bigger SRV hangers. One obvious variation would be to the current double hanger which holds 2 SRVs; it would be nice if it could hold either 1 double-sized SRV or 2 standard sized SRVs.

I was talking more about the size of the doors, rather than the hangar size itself. Hangar size is kinda messed up, anyway.
Not saying I wouldn't like bigger SRVs, of course! :)

I really see no use in new SRVs at the moment. As soon as there is more to do on planet surfaces new SRVs make sense, but at the moment I think new ships are of much more use. It's not that I wouldn't love to have more surface vehicles, but I the resources are of more use elsewhere.

Have you visited a Thargoid crash site and been attacked by a clump of scavengers in close quarters? Have you been in open and attacked by a player in a SRV? Have you attacked a wanted skimmer and then found that the clean ship hovering above you was of the same faction as the skimmer and suddenly you need to take it and the skimmer out fast because the ship's gone hostile and wanted? And most importantly - have you ever tried to kill a Goliath? Lots of roles here, current SRV is struggling. In fact, I can't even accept a Goliath mission unless I can synthesise vast amounts of super munitions. Also - variety is the spice of life

Actually I always take out skimmers and any other ground scum in my ship if not encountering them coincidentally... Dumbfire is excellent for that.

Quite easy. Thing of surface mining (not shooting rocks). Establishing mining equipment on a landable object. Then another type is highly welcome to harvest the outcome of those mining activities. Then a class4 / class 6 SRV bay will start to make some sense. Hence ideas are enough out there, it depends on resources to make them come true.

Actually new SRV can come in play around the end of this year (planet revamp) or mid 2018. FD is looking for vehicle designers at the moment.

Exploration SRV - design to not spin out all the time.

That's why I want an SRV like this:

I would prefer they first introduce some more surface content that will go with the new capabilities. Like drilling with a mini-game for the mining one or natural ground hazards (pressure, heat, magma, corrosive vapors etc.) for the hard one.

While there is not much new gameplay I would say we already have a multitude of ships with the same roles so why not have the same with SRV's. Multiple SRV's with slight variations in capability.

- Skimmer SRV that hover above the ground, cannot knock into small boulders but have issue with too steep angles and consumes more fuel. Also, faster than regular SRV.

- Tank SRV for combat missions with a single heavy main gun, better shields and armour

- Cargo SRV with X2 the cargo but no turret

- Racing SRV Quad with improved thrusters to counter low gravity and reduce spin-out

- Cold-World SRV for ice planets with spike wheels and cannot skid on ice

It's rather easy to create uses for SRV's looking at the current things we CAN do.

Not to mention.

- Reduce NPC skimmers and replace with NPC SRV's for missions.

- Pirate SRV gangs on planets guarding outposts

- Finding convoys of civilian SRV's tracking across a planet

We just need SRV outfitting so I can swap the turret module for a remote skimmer control.
Tele-presence skimmer flying! zooooooom! :D

New SRV: Scout SRV with improves sensors and remove skimmer.
