Love EDH, but EDO post 5 Patch...

I'm a new player with 108 hours with EDH and I am enthralled and in love with the game, especially with VR. At 65 years of age, few games impress me much anymore. But EDO, even after patch 5, I'm really, really concerned with the future of ED in general. Is my new passion going to be short lived?

I have only reviewed 20 games on Steam, all positive with only two negative. Well, make that three...

Steam Review:
I bought this DLC with EDH and spent maybe two hours with it. The shock of no VR support on foot and the performance turned me off immediately, so uninstalled the EDO DLC and went back to EDH. Quite surprised, loved it, 100+ hours with it later I decide to give EDO another try since five patches have come out for it. Must be better now...

Well, it is still a HUGE disappointment. I played another ten hours with it. I really wanted to enjoy it, even with the stupid Frontier no VR decision. Just grin and bear it. Maybe some on foot enjoyment could be had.

Others may have found that enjoyment, I did not. The game play is a repetitive grind, a lazy design to test your patience to the extreme. The performance after five patches is still bad, even with my top of the line rig with a RTX 3090, though for me, it is still playable. This whole EDO DLC feels like an FPS pasted on to an otherwise incredible space sim that adds very little to the original game.

Yes, I like leaving my SRV to walk around (even with the no VR wart and all), but the core of foot is not tied in well with the original ED space sim. It feels completely disassociated design wise and has nothing to do with my career I have in EDH.

The lack of VR support, the no ship interiors, the UI messed up design, the silly engineer grind design, the new planetary tech, all of it is less than mediocre ideas made by Frontier decision makers that have no concept of the importance of immersion and extending the life and interest of Elite Dangerous as a whole. EDO is an FPS money grab that is ending up being a crippling shot to the Elite Dangerous universe. ED's very existence is now threatened. Nice job Frontier!

I uninstalled EDO a second time after patch 5. It is a shame, I really want to like it. Too many bugs on top of my already mentioned shortcomings have soured my hopes for the future of Elite Dangerous. I love this game, best space travel model, the thrill of space exploration with VR, the many options (trade, mining, bounty hunting) to make money to purchase more of those beautiful ships, all of it is something that makes ED a lifetime commitment and one of my favorite games of all time. EDH is simply awesome, EDO is NOT.

One day they will force me to merge my EDH universe with the EDO universe. I hope by that time the problems have been addressed, performance, planet tech, VR, etc. Hope some changes are made to make the meld of spaceship and foot existence more interesting instead of two completely different games. If not, I'll be done with Elite Dangerous and be moving on, with fond memories of what Elite Dangerous used to be.
