I didn't play Planet Coaster so when I got into beta it was kinda hard for me. I experienced more bugs than most people and didn't get very far but I did fall in love with the game anyway. I just knew there was a whole lot I had to learn and I was very interested in learning it - but not in Career Mode. I really prefer to teach myself and I found some amazing resources online for learning as well as the amazing Discord where you can get questions answered almost immediately. I kinda figured that there would still be bugs on launch day because of the time frame so yesterday when I finally got the full game, I decided to start in Sandbox Mode. I am so glad that I did! There are very few bugs in Sandbox and I felt free to play and learn as I went which is the way I prefer it. I turned off animal deaths and disease and made everything as easy as possible - for now. Eventually, I will want to do the Franchise Mode and challenge my management skills, but trying to learn everything at once is almost too much if you're a newbie. By the time I feel ready for the challenge Frontier will have the bugs worked out.
The only serious bug I noticed in Sandbox was the keepers not feeding animals occasionally but the would come if called. In Sandbox animal welfare is still a big thing, they won't die but they do still have the same scores for everything. Right now the challenge for me is to learn to build beautiful habitats with healthy animals and keep my guests happy. That is enough for me for now and it is a pleasure to work in this amazingly beautiful game! The births are so exciting! My giant pandas had a baby and my bengal tigers had 3 gorgeous cubs. The new animal animations are absolutely enthralling to watch, there are so many more than in beta. I'm more of a creative type than a gamer so this strategy might not be best for everyone but I can see me sinking a ton of hours into this just practicing building.
I suspect I'm going to build and scrap a whole lot of zoos in my learning process so Sandbox is exactly the right place for me right now. I have always said that often the only difference between good and great is the willingness to start over. The only thing I really wish for is a way to walk around my own zoo and experience it from a first-person perspective. I did figure out the guest cam but I can't control where the guest goes so not quite what I'm looking for. However, I had some good laughs at the Planco cartoony people
I was dead-set against these cartoons until I saw how animated they are. They are hilarious! I still think they would be better if they were more realistic, but only if they keep these amazing lively animations!
