Love for the Cobra Mk4!

The Cobra Mk IV and Viper Mk IV have been my two favourite small ships. The former for everything but with a lean towards mining, the latter for everything but with a lean towards ground-based missions. The slowness is made up for in other departments, and I got a good speed out of the Viper with a bit of Engineering during the beta. So might not be a complete loss in that department either.

Yep'. I do like the Viper Mk IV, even if I am useless at combat.

If I do one day in the future decide to learn combat, I'll be using that boat for sure.

The Mk IV is my preferred jack-of-all-trades. I find it's great for bimbling about with low risk missions, or some light trading. It's especially useful for chain missions when you're not quite sure what's next on the list. Once I get back to the bubble i might take her to visit a couple of engineers

I really like the Cobra Mk IV for it's amazing internals for it's size. Unfortunately, in 2.1, it's max boost speed of circa 300 m/s make it a massive liability when dealing with much faster and more maneuverable (no to mention engi-modded) AI ships. Even the venerable Python is getting hit hard in the past week.

Just traded in my Cobra Mk3 for a Cobra Mk4 today, and I really love it.

I use it as a planetary salvage mission runner, with doubled SRV amount and doubled cargo space than Mk3, I will never worry about accidental SRV destruction or no enough cargo space to fill with. Also, it has one more small hardpoint and better hardpoints placement than Mk3, it stands up well in light combat and self defense against other small pirate ships is more likely succeed.

Personally, the slow speed does not bother me too much, because I mainly fly an Anaconda which is even slower than a Cobra Mk4 - both with high-end thrusters. As a small multipurpose ship under 1 Mil. credits, I do think Cobra Mk4 is worth flying if you have the access to buy one.

If they try and run, then blow their thrusters with the missiles. 2.1 now stops ships jumping if thrusters are offline.
Ah, I didn't know this. Thanks for the info.
Explains why i was sitting there in the combat zone last night like a lump, trying to jump, and being unable to, even though my FSD was fine.

Back on topic. I want to try the MkIV now. :)

Did someone mention Cobra IV? Probably the nicest ship to fly in my fleet. Carries a good load as well as an SRV hangar. Very good handling when landing on planets. Biggest ship you can fit on small landing pads, so it's go anywhere with a good load :) I use mine mainly as a planet missions and cargo specialist but it's nearly as good a multirole as the mkIII - just not a natural fighter or smuggler.

And she does look good in black... https://www.flickr.com/photos/martin_addison/25152720323/

If i was the sort of person who wrote lengthy posts to FD demanding they change some aspect of a ship

Cute.

But I do appreciate this ship. It's got a good jump range, shields are meh, good armor, good hardpoints. Only problem is its Corvette-esque top speed. Good for base assaults, I guess.
