Love for the space cow! [Lakon Type-9]

Hi y'all! Takin a break from the exceedingly salty general discussion to put in a li'l suggestion that probably isn't all that new but it didnt show up in a quick search so what the hey.[cool]

I just bought me a space cow. And holy cow what a trip! I play in VR and that bridge is a true work of industrial art. I feel like I'm flying a factory around. Big-ups to FDEV for that. It sounds and moves like a BFL (big friendly lorry) as well.

We have been calling these things space cows since the very first closed alpha release. Why in hades hasn't anyone made a black and white blotches camo skin for it? If I can deck out an anaconda in ridiculous but pretty urban camo, why not make my space cow look like a proper cow? (and blend into an asteroid field when I go mining with it)

So please for the love of all that is holy and huge and goes m00: COW SKIN for TYPE-9 please![big grin][money][big grin]

p.s. while you're at it FDEV, how about giving it some love in the stats department eh? it weighs thrice as much as a python which is a fighter and not a hauler, it should carry at least three times at much, perhaps more like four or five times as much! compare a regular lorry to an M2 bradley tank ;)

If that happens I'll start saving up for the ship :)

How much did the thing cost you with a reasonable loadout, and what exactly are you using it for anyway?

compare a regular lorry to an M2 bradley tank
If by "lorry" you mean a heavy goods vehicle, they start at 3.5 tons, while the M2 is about 30 tons. Weight of a cargo ship which is just a frame to stick containers in doesn't necessarily have to be more than a mobile weapons platform ;)

Perhaps I made that point too quickly. Let me elaborate. The lorry has an engine, a cab, loadbearing structure, a tarp to go over the cargo and perhaps a lift at the back to help unloading. About 9 tons of truck to haul 20 tons of biowaste.
Now the Bradley is an infantry fighting vehicle. Meant to both haul stuff around (heavily armed youngsters) and fight. It is thirty tons of armour, guns and other stuff to haul about two tons of kickass.
The python imo is more akin to the Bradley than to the lorry. Get my drift?

I spent about 70mn on my cow. Making her a multicrew belt Hoover is gonna cost a pretty penny more.

Yes, I'd like to see improvements for the Type-9. Lighter hull, more cargo space, etc. to make it a more valuable hauler than a general purpose ship, like an Anaconda. I think a "cow" paintjob would be fun to see in the game (even though I probably wouldn't buy it for myself).

I don't think the ship should carry x3 or more times than it already can carry, another size 8 rack perhaps to give it a boost as a dedicated freighter. Dropping the overall mass of the ship could be a viable idea which would give it a boost to jump range and justify smaller ships being able to mass lock it.

But the huge weight is what makes the ship so much fun. It needs careful precocious piloting, much like a big truck does. I like that. It would be nice if that weight wasn't just useless structure. It's not even armour!

The weight is good. its fun. but it needs to be useful weight; ie a huge load of fish. or gold. or whatever. a thousand tonnes at least. And if the background sim can't hack such amounts, it needs adjusting. also a cow skin. that too.

I mostly trade/mine and I flew a T-9 for a really long time (made enough in it to buy an A rated Anaconda which I eventually sold because I dont like the set back bridge) but gave up on it as a trader during the time when interdictions were super buggy. I agree its one of the only ships in the game that actually really feels like you are flying a massive ship.

To me due to its limited FSD range and being outclassed as a hauler by the other multirole ships in its class, the only really great role it has is as a mining ship.

Its a GREAT mining ship especially with the fighter bay. Maneuvering it through an asteroid field is great fun. I wish they hadnt have removed PPP mining missions from the board I'd still be flying her.

If they make the cow skin I will go back. But right now I'm just flying small ships piling up money hoping for the Panther Clipper to live up to my trader dreams. [yesnod]

I had a Type-9 but found it very difficult to handle...that is just me!! Personally, I much prefer the Type 7, which if I fitted it out with Cargo Bays and a fuel scoop with A rated FSD, Thrusters, Power Plant and Power Distributor was much better; and a lot cheaper. I think I was only ever interdicted once in a Type 7 but have been many times in the Type 9 - another reason why I gave up on it.
I'm now flying an Asp Explorer, which has awesome jump range with my A rated FSD. Okay, it doesn't haul a lot of cargo but it is great for multi-purpose use.
