Loving Elite back then, having trouble with Gamma.

Fellow old commanders

I need help with links about how to understand other roles. So far I've been trading with my Cobra and making about 50 mil since I started on gamma, a shame a know lol, I know people do millions in a day. but is not about money is about fun.

I'm tired of the same routine of trading but I have no clue of how to bounty hunt, pirating, smuggling, explore or, mining, I bought a refinery and mine laser but dunno what to do next for example, or where to go for bounty hunter or how to pirate, etc. can you pls lend me a hand on that with some tips or links?, if possible not videos but written links pls, specially how to start, what to buy.

I'd love to enjoy Elite would like to fit my Cobra and reach Sol system just for the sake of it, I'm in Hemaki right now.

I feel a bit shallow, would like to spice up my Elite experience, maybe im too old to learn as fast as I used to as a kid hehe.

Elite is a game when the more you understand the more you enjoy it, I see ppl giving up at the beginning because it feels you dont do much, I know is a lot to do just feel, lost in space.

You will mostly find video based tutorials I'm afraid.

Very briefly...

If you want to bounty hunt you should got to places like nav beacons (close to suns), USS, resources extraction sites and blast anyone with a wanted status. Once you have done this to your satisfaction you then turn in your bounty credits at a station of the appropriate authority. The left panel will provide you with info. If you are in an anarchy system you will need a kill warrant scanner because you aren't in a system with an authority to keep tabs on wanted status.

If you want to pirate get a FSD interdiction thingy in the outfitters and interdict players/ NPCs when they are in supercruise. The same interdiction module can be used to interdict anyone so this means you can interdict criminals as well.

If you want to mine you will have find a resource extraction site (planets with rings) or asteroid fields near suns. You simply blast a asteroid and collect the debris that you mining laser blasts off the rock. You then have to process it with your refining module. I've only tried for one session and i found it really tedious.

If you want to explore you fit a fuel scoop and a better scanner and jump to unknown destinations and scan. Again, this is pretty tedious (though some people seem to love it) and not super profitable.

I would encourage you to watch videos on the gamplay dynamics involved in each of these roles.

If you intend to mine, find a system with asteroid ring clusters is probably your best bet. Those which are metal rich or metallic are probably more likely to have valuable metals. You can see which type of ring they are, ice, rocky or metal in the system view of a chosen system but you might need to explore it first using a discovery scanner. Simply target a prospective asteroid ring and use super cruise to reach it. You need to get quite close to an asteroid in order to mine it. Simply use your mining laser to cut into the asteroid and fragments should break off. Use a scan to to see what the fragment contains and scoop it up with your cargo scoop. You then go to your cargo tab found on the right screen of your cockpit and then choose which elements you decide to keep (depending on how many refinery bins you have) to purify the fragments. It will give you the percentages of scanned materials and you must select those which you want to extract. You'll need to obtain several fragments at least in order to get 1t of that material.

There are resource extraction sites also which allow you to harvest minerals but I have found that these only contain fairly cheap materials. They do provide you with an interesting opportunity however if you wish to hunt for both materials and wanted ships. On quite a few occasions I have been attacked by pirates whilst mining and then destroyed my attacker receiving their bounty. You use yourself as bait to lure them in and then destroy them.

As far as pirating is concerned, the best option is probably to go to a anarchy system which seem devoid of life but you will encounter the odd trader/mining ship passing through. You can safely pirate these in an anarchy system without fear of being punished. If you intend to bounty hunt or be a pirate I would suggest getting a an FSD indicator, a frame shift wake scanner (to track your escaping quarry) a kill warrant scanner (for bounty hunting), a cargo scanner (to make sure you are not wasting your time and destroying empty ships) and a cargo hatch disabler type thingy which you fire at a ships cargo hatch and releases their cargo (never used one myself). Sometimes when bounty hunting the defending ship might just drop the cargo to stop you attacking them.

Cobra is probably the best ship to undertake any of these opportunities as you can fit it out with a reasonable arsenal whilst having the appropriate mining equipment.

Hope this helps amd happy hunting!
