Engineers Low emissions PP and Clean drives, am I mistaken

So I decided to take a Type 7 on an Exploration/Mining tour of the Betelgeuse area as a sort of shake down cruise.

Before I headed out I nodded the Type 7 with a Low Emission Grade 1 A4 Power Plant and a Clean Drive Grade 2 A4 Sublight Drive.

Both improved the Thermal Efficiency of their respective systems.

So I was expecting a cooler running ship, is a lower running temperate on the left of the Scanner for Fuel Scooping etc.

However with the Drive now using more power and the Power Plant producing less I am now running over 100% power and after power management running at 100% outpost results in a hotter running ship than the pre nodded ship.

I seemed to self defeated my objective.

Have I misunderstood and low emissions and clean drives thermal efficiency only effect ones thermal signature?

If so it still seems to be self defeating as the ship running at a higher % of output has a higher signature.

So the clean drive and low emissions power plant end up running hotter with a higher signature than the standard model.

The Type 7 get her over head on Jump problem once nodded which the unmodded PP fixed

I know they are only grade 1 and 2 mods but they seem to be worse that unmodded in their area they are supposes to improve

Am I doing wrong here

Anyone?
No one?

I seem to recall that the one mod I did (a while ago now) was a level 1 clean drive mod, and it had higher mass, so reduced (very slightly) my jump range, but did run cooler, although heat wasn't really an issue on an exploration outfitted Asp. It didn't really seem much of an upgrade <shrug> but as you point out, it's only a level 1 mod.

Probably not terribly helpful, but hate to see a genuine thread go unanswered. :)

Your heat is calculated by your flat MW consumed, not percent utilization. The heat efficiency number in the power plant's stats shows you how much heat is put into your system per "tick", per MW being used. Clean drive tuning makes the thrusters dump less heat into the system when at full power, but it also makes the thrusters consume more power. If the heat being generated by the thrusters was a small % of your problem when compared to the heat generated by the thrusters consuming MW, then clean drive tuning wont really cool your ship off. What it will do, however, is improve your flight model a bit with drastically less severe penalty vs. the dirty drives.

Cheers so might see better results with high upgrades
