Low Energy FSD Wakes - Questions and Issues

Morning..

I do a lot of bounty hunting and sometimes I try to drop out of SC on a low energy FSD wake but it's incredibly frustrating. So I have some questions and issues..

  1. It's very difficult to get to a safe disengage point on a wake. The approach does not seem to work the same was as for USS. You can get close but the last few Mm are very tricky as its very easy to overshoot. there's no dampening you get with USS or station approaches. This means that by the time you actually reach the safe disengage the wake no longer drops in with the other ship
  2. When I do manage to drop from SC at a wake it's very rare that I'm actually brought out of SC with the other ship, even when I make a relatively quick approach to the wake. Last night I didn't manage to get a single time when I actually found a ship in normal space after about 10 attempts
  3. when following two ships who are in the middle of an interdiction, which wake should I target when they both drop out? The could be 10s or 100s of LS apart. I've tried both but neither worked last night.

It would be really great if FD could improve this game mechanic. I really want to help out traders who get interdicted but at the moment it's just two difficult I find to actually successfully drop out of SC at a wake.

Cheers CMDRs

Definitely agree on point 1 - seems intermittent though, sometimes it works better than other times.

Last night when you attempted to help me out - I think it's possible you did actually join the instance but by the time you arrived we could have been ~20km away so you may not have found us, given my ill-advised attempt to escape when my shields went down. I had boosted away for maybe 2 minutes after a couple of minutes fighting , then tried a u-turn and boosted some more. I noticed a wake on the radar not long after this, although this could have been from police turning up and deciding it was lunch time or whatever.

I know what you mean about the battle moving on. I didn't see anything on the scanner in any of the attempts to drop and I stayed in the area for a few mins each time.

I hope this can be fixed as it's a good feature if it can be made to work properly.

thanks, I'll try to target the interdictor next time, though I think the whole thing is still a bit hit and miss...

I know what you guys mean. For the last 2 nights Friends and myself have been trying to help each other out when we get ID but like you said sometimes its easy to get in a wake then other times its impossible. This really needs fixing. It might be fixed when Wings come out!

Way I see it is that following the wake shouldn't be automatic. It would be too easy and formulaic

It makes sense that given errors and tolerances in equipment that you end up too far away from the actual drop point.

Saying that it should be something like a 80:20 hit:miss

At the moment it seems pretty random whether you're going to be able to drop in or not. Sometimes you really can't get near it, you can pretty much go lightspeed or 30km/s, very little in between, so you always overshoot. But sometimes it'll help you out (as I assume it's meant to).

Ok. Digging up an old thread cause this is ridiculous now.

Before this latest update I was regularly following ships into FSD wakes. It wasnt easy, but it was doable with sensitive throttle control.
Now its borderline impossible. Im in Yembo trying to help out traders who get interdicted. Usually the best way to do it since otherwise youd have to interdict every 2nd ship to try stop it happening. Its hopeless. Ive not managed to drop in on a single wake all night.

Theres already limited ways of interacting with players and this method has been virtually erased.

Please DEVS can we get a fix or a tweak to this. Traders are getting hammered out there and theres no way to stop it as it stands.

Is it supposed to be this hard to follow low energy FSD wakes (e.g. someone drops OUT of supercruise). The throttle control required is insane, I think its because in SC where there is a Low Energy FSD there is no planet or other body to slow you down in the same way you supercruise to a station.

What do you guys think?

Well, this can be explained like you said, but that wouldn't say anything about low wakes of your wing, which are much, much more easy to hit. I'm voting on a bug here.
