Low Frame-Rate with GTX1080 + i7 6700 + HTC Vive

I didn't know that performance was better at some point in time. That gives me hope.

My current system is:
Vive
i5 6600k @4,1 GHz
GTX 1070
16 GB RAM

Win 10
~> I also get some little spiking on planets even on VR low settings, without any SS, Blur, AA, 1.0 render target and imagined my system should be able to handle it, considering that people with a 980Ti seem to be able to up the SS. The Galaxy Map also spikes occassionally, but I think the issue there is networking.

So I'll be following this thread closely. Fly safe CMDRs.

Reviving this from the dead. I've updated the main post with the symptoms, and with actions taken in an attempt to solve the issue. Any help would be appreciated.
If you still have the Problem, i would guess that it could be a graphic card issue.
I recently upgrade my PC from i52500k@4GHz with gtx980ti to i7700k@4.4GHz and had even with the old config no such problems. The only diffrence for me is, that i could use 1.5/1.0 instead of 1.0/1.0 without great sideeffects.
I cant imagine that my Windows 10 makes the diffrence.

Have you ever runned the usual Benchmarks for you Graphic-Card ?
- Unigine Heaven and Valley
- 3DMark
and verified that your Graphic Card is in the normal range of other gtx1080 Graphic Cards ?

Have you checked the eventlog of Windows if there is some suspicious Entry with errors under System or Application ?

So the problem has been fixed, but I am not sure when or how. I rolled back my drivers to an earlier version which some have claimed results in better performance. It did not correct the problem. I then brought the drivers current and "restored" the original settings via the NVidia control panel. I also brought the SS down to 1.0, disabled reprojection, and set the in-game settings to VR low, to set a baseline. My intention was to analyze the timing. I was surprised to discover the game running at 90fps with only a few hiccups with head movement in those instances where the FPS reduced to any number under 90 fps. I increased graphics settings until I found the limit, and here I am. Reprojection took care of the head movement aberrations.

On lingering issue is that, regardless of FPS or timing, there is a lot of judder ONLY with respect to geometry in the cabin, including the pilot's body.

At the moment, I get an almost-solid 90 fps in stations and elsewhere, except very busy RES sites, on a slightly customized VR High preset with HMD set to 1.25, and SS set to 1.0.

Oddly, any dip below 90 is immediately apparent and jarring. Considering the DK2 looked fluid at 75 FPS, I am not sure why this is. Luckily, reprojection makes the game playable under these conditions.

Some people claim they get 90 fps in stations at SS 1.5 or 2.0, on a similar preset. I suspect they are incorrect; however, this brings me to the following.

I haven't checked any of those things. That is my task tonight.

I just want to chime in.

My PC specs are;

i5 6600k OCed to 4.1 GHZ
GTX 1060 OCed to 2100mhz core and 8552mhz mem
16mb ddr4 2400mhz
Windows 10
Vive

Elite Dangerous is the only VR game that gives me any performance issues. I get 89-90 FPS is regular space. 65-70 in High rez/intense spaces. 50-60 in Space Ports.

I can change the settings all day long. Low, med, and high. SS off, scaled down, and 1.4-1.5. It does not matter. The game performs sub optimally regardless of what settings I use.

This makes me believe that the issue in on Frontiers side and I've read that 2.2 borked VR. Really hope things change because once you go VR in ED, you don't go back.

May i ask what usual Framerates do you have without VR in High and Ultra-Settings ?

I checked my graphics card performance using Valley, and it seems to be about 300-400 points lower than I would expect (about 8%). My understanding is that this a normal variation. I'll try heaven tonight and edit this post.

Haven't checked event log yet. Will edit this post when I do.

Very similar to what I experience with my Vive + GTX 1080 + i7-6700K setup.
ED starts normally and keeps the frame rate at ~90FPS for some time.
However, after 30-40 minutes of active play FPS would drop down to unplayable level.
I have a feeling that Nvidia's Shadowplay (or whatever its name is at the moment) has something to do with the issue. At least, when I don't do in-game video recording (but still have all Nvidia stuff sitting residnt in RAM), I feel I can keep playable FPS for longer.
