Engineers Low hanging fruit for jump range

I signed up for DW2 but am totally unprepared hence this post. I'll go to the official start shortly, but would still like to get some upgrade before really flying out.

As background, I haven't kept up to date at all since the end of DW1. My Asp explorer is pretty much the same as it was back then with just under 34LY jump range and no engineering upgrades.

I only heard about guardians about a week ago, and have got guardian materials and scan to do it, but I'm still missing a ton of focus crystals. After spending a hour or two hitting up USS I'm not really any further along, picking up other stuff along the way. Went to a material exchange and I had a lot of nothing worth anything.

Ok, what about regular engineers? The 1st level looked simple enough, just need an atypical disrupted wake echo, rated very common. Sounds easy enough... Well, I ran out of time to actually do that.

Basically, any tips to acquire quickly (hah!) a bunch of focus crystals and/or atypical disrupted wake echos and maybe chemical processors for 2nd level too?

Dav's Hope and the Bug Killer Anaconda will give you either the mats you need, or some worth trading for them.

Post your build if you want any last minute direction.

Change it to this for twice the jump range.

Thanks for suggestions. I've still to unlock the guardian fsd booster. Spent around an hour doing laps of Dav's Hope last night but I'm not confident I have enough materials yet, so will give it another spin tonight.

In DW1 I did blow up my SRV so I was hoping to take a 2nd, which will impact my mass I know... swapping one AFMU with a 2nd SRV looks like around 1LY hit so I might do that.

Maybe I'm being blind, does the calculator allow you to check out engineering improvements also? I haven't got the scans yet but I did pick up the 2nd level component, so I could do the 1st two engineering upgrades once I got the scans.

Change it to this for twice the jump range.
I would agree with this and if you aren’t able to do the guardian booster yet I would recommend lowering the module number if you power plant and A rating it as suggested....if anything it will improve the heat efficiency of the entire ship and improve scoop times as well, making your overall exploration more efficient and enjoyable.

+1 on using a smaller A rated powerplant over a D rated one.
I'd never use a D rated PP.

FSD booster is a good call.

I like to use more shields as well, at least a 3A, or prismatic if available.

Genuine question here: Why B grade afmu? I know power is an issue, which is why I shut mine down if I don't need them, but is there another reason to not use a-rated?

3B AFMU has more capacity than 3A, but doesn't affect mass. I don't care about power either and will do module juggle if needed.

Haven't had a chance to do anything since last week, still need to get that upgrade and catch up with the rest.

Finally unlocked guardian fsd boost, and that gets me up to 46LY range (with the 2nd AFMU swapped with 2nd SRV as mentioned before). Now I understand the calculator site better, the 60+ range involves me getting the engineering upgrades too, which I haven't unlocked either... gonna clean my criminal record then work on that I guess. I believe I can get the first two levels without much difficulty taking me to 55LY-ish range.
