Low Temp Diamonds

Just started playing as a pirate and holy crap LTDs are worth a lot. One of my first stops in an anarchy system dropped so many LTDs I couldn't pick them all up before they started de-spawning. With just 9 I made over 4 million. Not sure if that is considered a lot but as a fairly new player its way more than what I was making doing bounty hunting.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Welcome to the forum! :D

Yes, Low Temp Diamonds (and Void Opals, etc.) are worth a pretty penny.

Back in *my* day it took days...*months*...to earn 4 million. Kids these days. ;)

I ignore low temperature diamonds when I find them, that's just a waste of cargo space that could hold void opals :)

Enjoy OP, it's raining credits right now. If you want to make big money, go core mining.

Funny old world.

In Colonia, LTDs go for more than VOs.

.... which I discovered after spending a couple of hours mining VOs and then looked-up the selling prices on EDDB. [sad]

Not at the moment, Stoertebeker Dock in HELGOLAND is buying Void Opals for 1.6 mill per ton.

The one trick here is to click on "best sell" at inara, and not rely on edsm or the nearest prices from Inara...

Usually there is always a port nearby buying at maximum prices since 3.3 went live.

Prices seem to vary throughout the day though e.g. last Sunday I got 1.6m for VOs in the morning and only half that in the afternoon at the same station.

Grandidierite is also worth your time. Top price for that is around 800k. Not quite on the scale of Void Opals but still a lot of money.

Both EDDB and Inara do a great job of providing the best selling price locations.

Yesterday I sold 82 tonnes of Void Opals for just under 136M credits and then swapped my T10 for a T6 to take the remaining 33T of LTD five jumps to the best selling location for LTDs. That affected prices at both stations, perhaps other Cmdrs were also selling in the same locations at the same time, so I sold my next load elsewhere. You don’t have to jump too far to get a very good price.

All prices are dependent on BGS states of the station owner - though this is most obvious with the really expensive gems, of course.

Void Opal prices are doubled by each of
- Investment
- Civil Liberty
- Pirate Attack
States are updated at about 1pm UTC each day at the moment, so that adds on a lot. Pirate Attack is - after a bit of a "startup" rush after 3.3's release - a relatively rare state.
(Most likely the Pirate Attack ended between the morning and the afternoon)

Low Temperature Diamonds, on the other hand, have their price increased by
- Investment
- Civil Liberty
- Expansion
This is a fairly common combination to see in player-supported systems, so it's much easier to find a system with all three of these, which beats the price of Void Opals at a system which only has two of that gem's preferred states.

Thanks cmdr, really informative, I'll look out for that in the future.

Finding Void Opals in close proximity to a max price buyer is fun on EDDB. Bodies page: Search for systems with ice rings using current system as reference, max ref' distance 50. Pick likely candidates from results and search Trading->Find Commodity page using them as reference system, select sell, and sort by sell price. Doesn't take me long to find two close together (or even the same system with careful digging, I mined 3 this week). You can also reverse it. Once you have a max price buying station, search the local' for ice rings. This is handy as it extends the search range and can be chained. I'm sure there's other ways, but this is working fine for me.

I'm glad to hear that you are doing something that you enjoy, and are happy with the payouts that you are receiving. That combination is where the game is at its best, really.

If you want to run straight to where the game is at its worst, then follow the advice of those who have posted above me in here.

Just know that once you arrive there, you will have a hard time coming back. I'm not referring to Colonia, by the way.

I hope you keep having fun - in this regard, I envy you greatly.

Rubbish. Some of us enjoy a mixed diet in ED. Get your excitement where you can there's not a lot of it.. Unless of course you're one of those who resent players earning good money because you didn't. If you see a player with his butt cheeks pressed against the cockpit window of a new 'conda, its might be me. :D

There is a lot that's worth your time when deep core mining, some folks seem far too fixated on Void Opals to the exclusion of everything else and pass over what are very profitable mining opportunities. I've made far more creds deep core mining in Grandidierite and Benitoite hot spots than I have at Void Opal ones, simply because you seem to have a much better chance of coming across the other two, while void opal cores are much fewer and far between in my experience. Personally, I don't pass up anything that makes over 500k per unit as you may as well fill up with everything that's worth while whilst you're out there. It does help to have the capacity of a T9 miner though, but after your first haul or two, any miner should easily be able to afford one. I run mine with an SLF and still have plenty of room for limpets and cargo.
