Lynx Bulk Carriers

... one could never fly this ship.
Would be nice to see them do their stuff again

I want to see them, parked outside a mining outpost, flurry of T-6's moving back & forth from the pads carrying cargo on board
Then the slow journey to a major industrial or hi-tech station
with a couple of escorts

this is the kind of LIFE that the game is sorely missing. Just incidental stuff happening in the background...

You nailed it.

I'd just sit and watch.

Basically these are salvage ships.

Its all these background things that add to the game in Freelancer you had comma chatter and if they were talking to you it was louder and you had a pilot image come up. Would also be a nice addition. Imagine instead of just docking and being assigned a pad the stations c&c official coming up and saying "Request granted please proceed to bay 27" or "Sorry were full at the moment you will be allocated when a free space is available"

I'm reading Elite: Reclamation (good so far) and it describes the carriers moored to the back of the stations and I recall similar views in Frontier and FFE. It would be great to see them moored with Lifters ferrying goods about.

It also mentions Capital ships with escorts in formation by a station; this would be far more striking a view rather than them being in their own instance in orbit of the planet.

C'mon FD make it happen!! :D

Not the Lynx Bulk Carriers, but the other, long brick-like ship in FE2 you couldn't fly ... I used Buffet to fly one*, and landed it at the London starport ... it covered half of London ... I should try to do it again, as I didn't take a pic.

*= Or I straight up hacked the game (thank you George Cooper) ... I can't remember which.

They're the biggest transporter I believe. Here's the wiki:

OP, you're not alone to want them back:

I, for one would love to pilot one of these at some point, with a little escort and a fixed turret system (coming soon, yeah!)
But even if they don't make it to the flyable ships of ED, I agree with Jadefriendly, it would be nice to see them at Extraction Sites.

Yes, I want more things to just sit and look at. I love just sitting on the landing pad and watching the ships come and go anyway, so whatever would add to that has my vote.

Exactly. The delivery trucks endlessly going round and round in stations is not enough to simulate daily "life".

Eventually I'd love to visit a shipyard with ships in various stages of construction, and service drones and construction workers crawling all over them welding and building etc.

I've love to visit the Empire or Federal central offices and see a buzz of human activity.

Unfortunately these would take considerable hand crafting by FD. However with Powerplay, Xbox one, planetary landings, commanders walking round stations, ongoing bug fixes, and the small matter of an impending Thargoid/Human war, I think its gonna be a looooooong time before we see this kind of thing.

like this?

Yes, strongly support the re-introduction of the bulk carriers. Would be nice if they arrived just like the capital ships ...

Perhaps it can be a group mission for Wings. A big shipping firm wants to get a Bulk Carrier to a new destination but it passes through a conflict zone and the crew are striking over unsatisfactory hazard pay so the boss hires you instead. One member of the wing docks his ship and pilots the Bulk Carrier, the others are his escorts. On the journey you are guaranteed to be interdicted, but the heavy Bulk Carrier won't be able to resist it so you have to fight and drive off the pirates. The pirates try to attack the 'bristles' of the 'toilet brush' to break off the freight pods at the end of them. A Bulk Carrier is unarmed but the pilot doesn't just have to sit and wait for his wingmen to win, he can respond by rolling his ship to rotate attacked sections away from fire, or even spin them into enemy ships to smack them like a baseball bat - a ship as big as the Bulk Carrier can ram indiscriminately.

Not the brick ship from the Frontier intro please. (Would that be the Long Ranger Cruiser?. Not sure)

While they were cool and all, personally I hope a lore reason can be found for why they fell out of use.

For one thing the jump range on them was terrible. If memory serves it took a week to go .1 LY.

Am I being a killjoy here? I hope not. I'm thinking of the Economy. It'll be big enough effect when the Panther owners get busy, but a single ship that size could probably empty a station at a stroke. Player effect would drop to almost nothing when one of those big boys turned up.
