Mac User Season option/suggestion

Greetings!I have been an avid fan of this game since it's release to Mac and it is the kind of game I have always wanted to play Elite since seeing the original Spectrum game back in the 80s. Whilst I am grateful the game was made and the Mac version continues to be fully supported I can't help at times feeling like a bit of a cheapskate when using features in v1.6 that PC users had to buy a season pass for. Other than buying merchandise and in-game purchases, there is no way for me to support the ongoing development of this fantastic game by buying the season passes. I mean, I could, I suppose but I wouldn't be able to install the expansions. Now that The Guardians is soon to be released, it looks like there are quite a few features that don't require compute shaders to work, like ship launched fighters and multi-crew but are (rightly so) exclusive the update. I would like to know if the Frontier team would be willing to develop a Mac version of Horizons, The Guardians and future seasons in parallel to the PC version implementing any changes that do not require the use of, either directly or indirectly, compute shaders. My hope is that this will not create too great a burden on the development team and that there is a way to poll Mac users to ensure there are enough users like me that would be willing to pay for suxh a version.

I think it all depends on Apple at the moment. The OS just won't provide the goods.

Bootcamp, install Windows, and you are good to go.

I am curious though - I've not had a chance to test for myself (no space on SSD for native client), but do the engineered effects upgrades appear to native Mac clients, even though they have no way of obtaining them themselves?

Yes they do, we still get the heat effects etc., at least back when NPC ships had them, I haven't had a pvp encounter with mods but I can see the different colours and sound effects when fighting alongside other players. Buying and installing windows is just not a reality for me right now and I don't play often enough to justify. I am cool with not having planetary landings or anything else that relies on the compute shaders that Apple are not supporting in the right way. I would just love to a) not feel like I am not contributing to the further development of Elite by purchasing season passes and b) missing out on major new features and gameplay that don't rely on the compute shaders because Frontier have been forced by Apple to discontinue developing the OS version.I'm just suggesting this as something to look into as a practical compromise option, obviously if there are not enough OS users that would buy the hybrid version to justify the labour spent on coding it then that's perfectly reasonable, if there are technical reasons that would not make it possible that's fine as well.Cheers.

Yeah, either bootcamp your Mac, or just get out of that whole toxic ecosystem called Apple. :D

My misses keeps saying "why don't you replace your PC with a Mac Book?"...
And I'm like "I'm not spending £2000 on a paper weight, that's too light to be a paper weight..."
Then we argue...
She loves Apple and falls for all their shiney gubbins.
I see them for they can do. Which for me, isn't much. Lol

It's not my fault my PC still looks like a hideous monstrosity from 2001...

i am pondering IF the game can be played using parallels on a mac; anybody care to comment
I ask as i have an iMac and a PC and its a bind having to switch between machines on the
small office table at home to play the game
