I know this is not really the correct thread, but I cannot seem to create threads only post replies (Forum Status : Mostly Harmless?)
If a Mod sees this perhaps you could create a new thread and move this post there?
OK If anyone out there has a Mad Catz mouse with the horizontal scroll wheel and finds they cannot use it in Elite Dangerous to navigate the UI panels I think I have the answer.
Issue: I had set UI left and UI right to A and D respectively. I then programmed mode 1 (Red mode) of my RAT 7 to produce an 'A' when rolling left and a 'D' when rolling right. Except I could not get this to work .....for ages.
Resolution:
Finally I had some time on my hands to experiment and found I could fix the issue by using the "New Advanced command" function in the Mad Catz Profile editor
To program an advanced command:
1. Even though Mad Catz have gone bust, as of today 8th June 2017 the Mad Catz support server is still operational , you can still down load drivers, software and profiles from here: -http://www.madcatz.com/downloads/
2. Install the drivers and software.
3. The Madcatz menu program runs in background so you can usually find the "Mad Catz R.A.T.& Mouse" icon in the Microsoft 7 Taskbar (maybe in show hidden icons) right click on icon and chose "Profile editor".
4. Once opened, choose Programming
5. Choose the MODE you want to program (Red, Blue or Violet)
6. HOVER your mouse over the blue label for scroll left. When the white box appears, drag the mouse pointer down into it and onto the triangle that appears top right of the white box , left-click.
7. From the menu choose "New Advanced Command..."
8. A dialogue box appears, The Command name will be "Untitled", you should change this to something descriptive (e.g. "UI Left")
9. There are THREE action boxes below the Command name: "Press"; "Repeat"; "Release", you need to place the chosen key PRESS (example "A") in the Press box and the key RELEASE in the Release box. (Yeah its that simple!)
In the PRESS box press and release your chosen key (example "A") Two icons will appear one depressed one released. Select the key release icon, right-click - Cut to remove.
10 Go to the Release box. Press and release the same chosen key (example "A"). This time select the Press key icon, Right-click - Cut. Still in the Release box, select the Key release icon and right-click - Set Delay (I found 0.04 secs to work best)
11. Repeat 6 to 10 for the Scroll right action
12. SAVE your changes. (chose Save-As and enter a descriptive profile/filename)
12 ACTIVATE your new profile ("Activate Profile" button, top right of main profile editor programming screen).
Within ED options-controls-
Ensure that UI left and UI right are set to your chosen keys. I also set UI UP and UI down to center button scroll forward and scroll back respectively. Left mouse button to UI select, and mouse 5 and 4 to Next Panel tab and Previous panel tab respectively.
Good luck commanders o7
