Newcomer / Intro Made it to SOL's door but can't get in

Started at LHS 3447. Was having fun making a bunch of cred's doing go fetch stuff mission's. When I had enough cred's I Sold the Eagle, bought an Adder and fixed it up to make long jumps just for the purpose of making it to Earth. But what do I find when I get there? I need a fracking permit to get in. Great. So I read up in these hear forums that good rep is needed and you need to do certain mission's to get the permit. So I check my rep. Nope it's unfriendly (also learned how to avoid neg fed rep) and have no idea on how to raise it or what mission's to do to get the permit.

Question is, does anybody know an easy way I can fix this, or would it be easier to just start over and go pledge allegiance to the Fed's?

Any help is appreciated.

That's always going to be a personal decision based on how you feel about it. Repairing rep with the fed and then boosting it enough to get a Sol permit could take you a while but you've already got time invested in your adder. You know how long it took you to get to this point starting from scratch. If you're ok with doing that again while starting from neutral gaining rep with the fed at the same time maybe you would pick that.

Choose whichever you think will be least grindy and frustrating.

Your best bet would be to do things that give + federation rep, such as:
-bounty hunting criminals that have a federation bounty. Make sure they aren't part of a federation faction though!
-trading between federation systems, I recommend outposts as they don't have security around and you're unfriendly.
-if you can find federation missions, do them and don't fail/quit.

It may take a while but you'll get to neutral>friendly>allied soon enough.

Or you could wipe your save... But then you lose all progress so it's up to you to decide if it's worth it.

As for obtaining the actual permit, I'm not sure what you need to do. I imagine it's going to be a mission reward once you're allied.

You need a permit.
Beta backers have a permit to sol.
Otherwise you have to earn one through getting rep. You don't need to have rep explicitely from the Federation itself, but more so with parties within the federation.
I still cant get into Sirius, Van Maanen's star and virtually every other permit related place that was not given to me.
The permits come in the form of an insta-win mission when a group trusts you enough.
Sol is sacred land to the human race and is traditional for the rich to visit at least once in their life-time. So getting there is sort of a big deal as an achievement. It has interesting places but I cant say its the best system I have been to as far as making money is concerned. Sol seems to want to be given everything, it produces very little at most of the stations. Or is otherwise self-sufficient to a degree that they only buy and do not sell much.

Wow. Quick responses. Tanks.

Until now, my sole purpose was to make it to Earth. Kind of deflating. But it's still a really cool game.

Just think of it this way, now you have a long term goal. :) just sit back , take the long way home, and enjoy the trip.
