Maelstrom asteroids, has anyone tried to mine them yet?

I just think it's cool that there are asteroids as a barrier / oort cloud to the Titan Motherships, they were totally unexpected and clearly were put there for a reason.
Even if those reasons were just artistic and dramatic reasons, well-done fdev, it's just cool and adds to the ambiance.
From a logistical point of view, I'm pretty sure, Fdev's intention for those rocks was to literally give the players some much-needed cover, something to hide behind so one can take a breather between "rounds" with the titan, patch up, or do some duck and cover with the glaives.

But as a miner (many life times ago it feels), I can't help but wonder what a pulse wave scanner and some prospectors could uncover. What if, there is the mothership of motherloads in one of those things, or some exotic materials needed to keep the Titans active(?) like a Thargoid version of tritium or frozen ammonia for their life support?
I think it would be super clever (and cruel) of Fdev to mix up the AX combat themes with other professions having to pitch in to take down a Titan.

I can dream....but my money is that it will probably be hydrogen peroxide and other crappy materials with no value. and the rocks were there purely for cover and aesthetics

I tried to mine one rock with normal mining laser, but it only yielded normal stuff. I've not done it for a long time tough, just tried one rock briefly and moved on.

So, a couple observations...
  • within the asteroid fields are "caustic mines" of somesuch
  • if you scan these, they are identified as "caustic generators" as far as the codex is concerned, but they behave differently
  • you don't appear to be able to sample the mines
  • they don't jet around like the caustic generators
  • they have a slightly different colouration (unless that's my eyes playing tricks)

On the asteroids proper... maybe like how barnacles leech minerals from the area for interceptors to (refuel? Eat? Interact?) with... the Titan consumes the asteroids for similar reasons

Alternately, maybe it's gonna turn them into bullets through some mass-driver- like capability.
