Maelstrom fixed

I'm going to say it's bugged. If reputation was required.. No Naval missions would appear at all until you reach the proper reputation.

Then again.. I could be wrong.. But, as that is the only mission showing up in the BB for me and bounty hunting doesn't give rep.. I'm at a stand-still.

Chief Petty Officer is not the limit, I got one of those missions that require non-lethal weapons (again) and completing it granted me the rank of Warrant Officer. I am allied with the feds.

However I did not receive a permit to PLX 695 at any point which is a bit weird.

Do you actually have to enter the next permit system and farm rep there to move up in rank? Just hit Petty Officer in Beta Hydri and there's no Federal contact here or anything. Doesn't seem like it's necessary and I can just continue farming rep at Sol. Anyone know?

I already had the Maelstrom mission to find and destroy him, from before patch. do i need to abandon. so far - 20 USS's and nothing tonight

Q: What do I have to do exactly when I got those permits? I have no idea. It must have been by accident in the first system.

Well that was fun... After a brief search, I found the new General "whatshisname" and he seemed quite relaxed about me shooting at him for about 5 minutes straight. We exchanged a few zaps, he battered my shields, and then the hull, but he didn't really seem to be fighting back much. My vanilla weapons weren't really doing a lot of damage but suddenly, out of nowhere, he seemed to get bored of me and instantly became a much more capable pilot. He out manoeuvred me, out gunned me and completely outclassed me. I seemed to go from "I may just kill this SOB" to "OH NO, PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!". Just before my hull collapsed and I was "de-shipped"... the feds arrived and started to shoot him too. I'd like to think they killed him, but I fear the AI had a good laugh the moment I went kaboom.

It would appear that having limited skill, is no reason not to love this game :)

I didn't bother going to Beta Hydri as I don't trust the mission code/scripts to work, and then the next mission turned up in exactly the same place as I got the first one. I'm over 100Ly away from Beta Hydri.

IF you would have ran to 4km every time your shields almost went down and recharged them before coming back for more... then you AND those Feds could have killed him together, then you just need to make sure you get the last shot. Though i think there has been some changes to when NPCs can steal your kills now.

I have reached Petty Officer and got the permit for Beta Hydri, but when I get there there is no communique from the Naval Officer on any of
the BB's. All I keep getting is the Federal Invitation to Beta Hydri to receive the communique which is un-obtainable as it says I already have the reward of the Beta Hydri Permit.
Have tried many other stations and get the same. Anybody know what I need to do?
Thanks.

Well, I'm Ensign now.. but yeah, those permits don't actually do anything right now - haven't found anything in the 4 systems i've got permits for that would approximate a naval officer's communique. Odd that - it could be bugged.. or it might be just not implemented yet.. who knows.

Confirmed to work. I'm now Petty Officer. It's a weak* Federal Dropship.

it may be a "weak" dropship, but I tried to kill it twice with my Lakon type-6 (with dual beam laser turrets) and get beaten everytime... I guess, a freighter is not the ship of choice for assassination trips :p

Haha no, I'd say not. Try switching to a Viper. Upgrade shields, add any size shield booster, and throw on 4 gimballed multi cannons, I think you have to do the power plant too or be creative with your module priorities.

Target the power plant and you can melt them in short order. Viper is my preferred method of assassination. :)

Indeed switched to Viper, upgraded powerplant, distributors, guns, sensors, shields and what more...
Hardest part was to find him (Gen. Kahn in my case). Had to check out over 20 USS's.
Once found he was a pushover indeed, he managed to make my outer shield ring red though.. <shivers>
It gave me a bounty of yes... 200CR :)

You dont even have to fly there, just wait for the next missions to pop in.

But at the rank of Post Commander it seems to be over. I didnt get any new progression missions since Saturday.
