Ships Maelstroms build ship AX

greetings commanders, I haven't been to Maelstroms yet but I heard that AX Guardians builds are not effective there, would there be any appropriate builds to enter there?

You will need decontamination limpets as there will be caustic damage, repair limpets, relatively good hulls + hrp, mrp (but not absolutely necessary) and you need speed as there will be interceptors chasing you away. Other than this build as per normal.

Guardian stuff is indeed a no-go (Maelstrom systems show the same corruption effects as HIP 22460). Speed and hull are your friends, so get a Clipper if you have access to it (alternatively an Orca). There's one aspect of the build that I would consider a spoiler if you haven't been in a Maelstrom yet:
The caustic generators are heat sensitive, so if you want to scan them or extract research samples your ship needs to run cold (under 20%). TV beams aren't an option because the generators will just blow up, so:
  • No shields
  • Low Emissions PP
  • Clean Drives
Decon and repair limpets are a must, research and collectors recommended. The Clipper has the advantage of a size 7 slot, so a Universal Limpet Controller is also an option if you want to trade some top speed for more hull.

What is your purpose?

If you are gathering mine mats, I'm using this. The Guardian hull reinforcements do not degrade in the cloud like other components do.

Probably could be improved upon.

You can turn off the shields to get cooler in the cloud, but when you get interdicted (and you will), the shields are enough to avoid damage while you boost away.

I enter the cloud, hang out at the perimeter, use the thermal vent beam to pop mines then wait before moving in on the mats.

Sometimes other mines will jet over to pollute the area where I popped a mine. Sometimes an interceptor will visit and hang out.

Occasionally, the guts will be left behind and you can send in the collector limpet to get them.

You can get exposed to caustic damage from the exploded mine, from the jetting live mines, or if the core seems to randomly get closer to your location - not sure if that is a bug.

Always be aware of your surroundings and have your escape vector in mind.

Be prepared to synth limpets or heat sinks if you are in a bind.

I haven't actually aggroed an interceptor in the cloud yet. Mainly issues with the caustic.

I built an Asp Scout, shield less with a cruising thermal load of 13%, to jump into systems to get a screen shot of a Maelstrom. You have to evade A LOT of interdictions, and I mean A LOT.
