Thats right , i believe they deployed them in panic . Why ?
Equip your ship full of Guardian tech and go fly to one, if you haven't done. It won`t even make it into the Maelstrom proper before it`s completely inoperable . Human tech functions perfectly fine.
I believe therefore they developed these in the guardian war , a war they were losing which had them develop a countermeasure to render their opponents unable to break through to their homeworld.
Their initial contacts with humanity involved lots of scans as they tried to work out who and what we were , but no initial hostile actions. Then we started to equip Guardian tech and they got violent on immediate contact.
Their initial assaults on our space were beyond our capacity to handle, we were getting our arses slapped in no uncertain terms .
And then.. we started to kick them back a bit , an isolated system here and there , more thargoids being destroyed by human pilots refining their ships and tactics , more and more guardian tech appearing . My Hypothesis is this , they fear we`ve actually made contact ! That somewhere out there, remnants of their long vanished enemy have survived in tiny isolated systems and are cautiously aiding us. Suddenly Salvation attempts to shutdown an entire thargoid battlefleet using hybrid human guardian tech , yes ultimately he failed but in terms of rapid change in our combat ability against them, it was a massive leap .
Their biggest response, their biggest deployment of their superiority over us , their maelstroms . but, and here`s the thing ..they do NOTHING to us . Oh yeah they're all fire and brimstone to look at, a bit dantes inferno, not ideal to go flying around in, but stay cool and avoid playing kisschase with the generators and they`re not that scary., Certainly within military doctrine denying your enemy territory to move in and occupy is valid , but the maelstroms do neither to human ships, if i was a Guardian i suspect flying in would see me helpless and easy meat for a single scout within minutes .
Not only that but how many have they thrown at us.. EIGHT. That's it. They`ve not walled us in and made it impossible to get out , NOR have they and this i think seals it, sent ANY MORE . They`ve hit us with their biggest weapons, in i think a panic , but those weapons actually hinder us not a bit.
A lot have wondered why those particular systems, their seems no logical method to their placement , but what if their placement was determined millennia ago ? I`m thinking they were sent back to where they were LAST deployed as a final attempt to hold back complete destruction by an enemy that eventually destroyed itself .
Something curious i witnessed inside inside Leigong the other day was what appeared to be a Basilisk sucking in the maelstrom almost like a vacuum cleaner , he was a good 15k off i`d say and i only noticed him because he was glowing in the light of the star as he/she/it/tomato had depleted the cloud around it , maybe they`re also a refuelling station for the murderflowers internal ships atmospheres and weapons. ? If that is the case, then perhaps a bit of germ warfare could be introduced into the maelstroms to adversely affect them ?
Recently not only have we been destroying ships in their hundreds, we`ve been taking back entire systems in a matter of days, some they don`t even manage to establish a foothold in before they`re driven back. WE WILL PREVAIL !
For Mankind.
